Virtual Social Events: Organize virtual team-building activities, such as online games, coffee breaks, or virtual happy hours. These informal interactions help team members connect on a personal level. Establish Clear Communication Norms: Define expectations for response times, communication channels, and meeting etiquette. This reduces ambiguity and fosters a sense of predictability. Encourage Vulnerability: Create a safe space for team members to share their challenges and concerns. This fosters empathy and strengthens connections. Focus on Shared Goals: Emphasize the team's shared goals and how each individual contributes to the overall success. This creates a sense of collective purpose.

Exactly the same way as in person - Open and honest conversations is a must - Constant feedback, postive in public (online) and negative during one on ones or alone - Talk about your own failures and problems (not personnel related, project related) - Ask for help - One on ones, powerful! - Care about the people and show it, ask questions, actually listen

One thing I do to help build trust is share my camera in team meetings and I refrain from using my computer during the call. Instead, I use a legal pad to take notes and participate in a discussion. This is the same thing we do for in-person meetings so it is the least we can do for virtual meetings.

Building trust in a remote team starts with clear goals and open, transparent communication. Take time to build relationships by showing empathy and creating space for connection beyond work. Celebrate wins, big or small, and foster collaboration by valuing everyone’s input. Most importantly, lead by example!!! Trust grows through consistency, transparency, and a human-first approach.
