While it may seem obvious, it still needs to be said....normalize the need for rest. And the need for rest may come in different forms. 1. Avoid a "tough it out" mentality as much as possible. People who are tasked with making key decisions will eventually need time for a mental break. 2. Implement a rotational schedule so team members can rotate through tasks or just take time of their feet. 3. A good leader knows how to observe for the non-verbal cues that their team members are getting burnt out. Don't always wait for someone to say they need a break before you provide them one. 4. Keep them focused by providing periodic updates on the status of the emergency and how their actions are having a positive impact.

What a prolong emergency is the factor in breaks for each of the team members. This is a down individual resiliency and a moment to catch a breather and an environment where it’s going to be hectic and have high-pressure stressful decisions.
