You're a servant leader who's faced failure. How can you use it to make your team stronger?

Servant Leader to always remember one thing : Their may be great idea, the difference between success/failure of an idea is "execution" and the most important aspect of successful execution is the "team". So a servant leader should focus in building a right fearless team to get successful execution to get desired outcome for any path breaking "idea"

As there is a failure, there should be an evaluation. Servant Leadership is good, but not applicable in all situations/conditions. I would prefer combination of different leadership style such as the combination of autocratic leadership, servant leadership and also democratic leadership. Again, it is all depends on the condition/situation. We have to be agile in today's world. Agree with me?

Organizations eventually falter if they focus on financial gain over empowering individuals and their teams. Leadership often becomes the single point of failure, incapable of capturing the leverage that an empowered team creates. Even when these leaders meet financial targets, they face the time bomb of critical team members leaving for more fulfilling development opportunities. Transparency from leadership up and down the chain is mission critical to foster a true culture of trust and accountability.

While we as a society have made ‘failure’ fatal is is far from it. In fact, it’s the only way we learn. There have been moments that have not gone well in my career, one I distinctly remember a new position. I kept my head down, doing my job and did little to nothing to engage with my peers. My boss brought me into her office and asked how I thought things we going. Smugly I said ‘great’ and listed all the biz I’d closed. Then she said, ‘seems like you’re doing well with your external clients, how about internal?’ 🤦🏻♀️ No one had ever given me that distinction. Clearly it was not going well. That altered my view and actions that day. I made sure I engaged w/ the team. That was a game changer for my career from that point on.

Not all of us are blessed with the trait of Servant Leadership and it’s crucial for a Leader to own the Wins as well as Losses To make my Team stronger I would : 1) Set up a meeting / call and would discuss the entire situation 2) State about the failure and take full ownership and responsibility as a Servant Leader 3) Appreciate the efforts done by each of my Team Members and would motivate them on the levers which could have been achieved 4) Prepare them for the Upcoming/ running Projects 5) Motivate them for the current & future goals 6) Assure them of more involvement & engagement from my side for the upcoming Assignments 7) End up the meeting on a positive note

It’s all about retrospective ..Murphy’s law will always prevail but we need to quickly learn and see how we can turn that failure into generating new opportunity .. This will give sense of achievement to the team !

Reflecting on our failures is as crucial as celebrating our successes. "Fail fast, fail forward" resonates only when paired with thoughtful introspection. Understanding the 'what' and 'why' behind our missteps, ensuring remedies, and preventing repetition are key. Regular lessons-learned sessions, regardless of outcome, contribute to a rich knowledge base that empowers individuals and organizations to evolve and excel.

Failure presents an opportunity for growth and improvement. Take the time to analyze the root causes of the failure and identify lessons learned. Encourage open dialogue and reflection among team members to gain different perspectives and insights. Use the failure as a catalyst for identifying areas for improvement in processes, strategies, and decision-making. By embracing a mindset of continuous learning, you turn failure into a valuable source of wisdom and experience.

What worked. There is always something you did right - sometimes you did everything right but things still can go pear shaped. What didn't work. Without blame, and without emotion, note what did not go as planned (assuming you had a plan). Have I been here before. Is there a pattern I need to learn from, a behaviour I need to see in myself and/or in the situation. What could have worked. This more about how to avoid this in the future. 20/20 highsight used as foresight for next time.

En importante después de pasar por un momento álgido pensar y reflexionar tratando de ser lo más objetivos . Identificar tus habilidades y también áreas de oportunidad para poder seguir trabajando y mejorar en cada momento. No todo es perfecto y no todo es malo. Lo interesante es poder notar la diferencia entre estas dos posibilidades para generar un proceso de crecimiento.

If the failure has caused harm or disappointment to others, it's important to offer a sincere apology and make amends where possible. Express empathy and understanding for the impact of the failure on those affected, and take proactive steps to address any negative consequences. By demonstrating empathy and accountability, you strengthen trust and credibility with your team and stakeholders, laying the foundation for rebuilding and moving forward.

Seeing servant leadership as being a mandate from Jesus, we live under the protection of the Gospel and His finished work on the cross. (we are forgiven, fully, freely and forever.) That said, practically speaking, the importance of really owning the mistake and also owning the ripple effects of the mistake as well as the burdens that the mistake may have caused others is paramount. Just honestly owning the whole scenario, not just the mistake but the awareness that was gleaned from looking within then asking for forgiveness and reassuring the lessons that were learned and the changes that are in process to back up the promise that it won’t happen again. God willing. :)

Apologies should be short, to the point, personal, honest and without excuse. I don't subscribe to this idea of "make amends". You can't change what has happened so you can't satisfy the tally counting some people keep. But you can go forward and take action how you should from here forward. If you repeat the same error then it won't matter what you say or do.

As a servant leader, I can use my failure as a teaching moment for my team. By openly discussing my experience, I can show vulnerability, promote transparency, and encourage a culture of learning from mistakes. This can foster empathy, resilience, and a willingness to take calculated risks within the team. Additionally, I can use my failure to illustrate the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and seeking feedback, thereby empowering team members to navigate challenges effectively.

Some times the best lessons learned are the ones under the heading of what *not* to do. Some of the most profound and lasting lessons have come from failures and redemption stories are always more interesting than the "cheat code" stories where absolutely nothing went wrong.

Paradoxically, failure can be cause for celebration when viewed through the lens of learning and growth. Foster a culture where failure is not stigmatized but celebrated as a natural part of innovation and experimentation. Recognize and appreciate the courage and effort that went into taking risks and pushing boundaries, even if the outcome was not as expected. By reframing failure as a stepping stone to success, you inspire resilience and perseverance in your team.

Both personally and professionally, you need to encourage a certain amount of risk taking that at a minimum are learning points. This goes for your teams as well. Knowing errors are accepted - and even celebrated - means you are challenging yourself and pushing the limits, not shrinking back from them.

Scheitern ist für mich nicht das Ende, sondern vielmehr eine Gelegenheit für neues Wachstum und Erfolg. Es ermöglicht mir, aus meinen Fehlern zu lernen und mich weiterzuentwickeln. Ohne mein Scheitern hätte ich nicht diese Erfahrungen im Leadership machen können, die ich heute habe. Es hat mir ermöglicht, zu wachsen und mich weiterzuentwickeln, sowohl persönlich als auch beruflich. Daher betrachte ich das Scheitern nicht als Hindernis, sondern als eine wertvolle Chance zur Weiterentwicklung. Und durch dieses Scheitern werde ich letztendlich noch höher kommen, als erwartet - und das schöne, nicht nur ich!

John Maxwell's book "Sometimes you Win, Sometimes you Learn" is a good reference. If you don't learn, you have failed. Share only what you need to. Don't dwell on the past more than necessary. At worst make it a funny story - laughter takes the sting out.

Be aware of your actions and of the mistake. Be transparent, own the mistake and do not dwell on it, but learn from it. Mistakes, errors, failures are a part of life and work, and you should use them to learn from them

1. As a servant leader , one of my key responsibilities is to create a psychological safe space for the team members where they are allowed to experiment and fail. This, I would transparently share my failure experience with the team, highlighting lessons learned and emphasizing the importance of resilience. This openness fosters trust and encourages a culture of continuous improvement. 2. The other key responsibility as a servant leader is to create a collaborative team where each member feels empowered to contribute their ideas and take active participation in team discussions . Hence , I would actively involve team members in problem-solving discussions to leverage diverse perspectives and collectively learn from the setback

The most helpful resource to serve is to normalize doing constant retrospectives to find failures. As a servant leader you must know your team and find a constructive dynamic to get each one’s feedback on these three concepts: “keep doing”, “stop doing” and “tasks-actions”. Embrace errors as a natural path to do better.

Once the lessons have been learned and actions taken to address the failure, it's important to align the team around a shared vision and move forward with renewed purpose and determination. Communicate openly with your team about the lessons learned and the steps being taken to prevent similar failures in the future. Reaffirm your commitment to the team's goals and values, and inspire confidence in their ability to overcome challenges and achieve success.

Una clave, según mi experiencia, para superar los fracasos radica en fortalecer la práctica consciente de soltar pensamientos rumiantes sobre lo que aparentemente "perdemos" por tales errores. Effective leaders convert a group of individuals into a team. There are various ways to quantify the effectiveness of your team; - Set SMART objectives - Discuss KPIs - Monitor & do checkins regularly - Provide timely feedback - Have 1:1s & gain insights - Promote effective communication & collaboration - Establish peer reviews, this creates a challenging yet exciting way to learn & grow - Celebrate small wins - Give credit publicly to boost morale - Evaluate, adapt & learn from mistakes

The question isn't how you look when you succees but rather how you look in the eyes of failure. Failure is a necessary "pause" on the road to success. If you want to know what a person is make of, observe the behaviors as it pertains to failure. Anyone can smile when the sun is shining, let's see what you look like when it's raining & storming in your life. Pressure brings out the best or worst in a person. I'd prefer a leader who has been through some storms and will not crumble under pressure but moves forward come hell or hot water! Let that sink in your Spirit!!

Remember that failure is not the end of the road, but rather a stepping stone on the path to success. Encourage resilience, adaptability, and a growth mindset within your team, and support them in embracing failure as an opportunity for learning and growth. And above all, lead by example by demonstrating grace, humility, and perseverance in the face of adversity.

My learning from failures is It is just a rehearsal for the upcoming success. My suggestion is don’t waste your pain. Learn from them and teach others how yo overcome them

Plan to fail. The best leaders understand that failure is a critical part of the journey and embrace the idea of failing fast and finding the lessons that build the scaffold for success.
