In the design process, it’s essential to survey available materials in the project's surrounding area, assess their adaptability to the project's specific conditions, and determine whether the client is open to using alternative materials and to what extent. Evaluate at least three options with the design team, involve the budget team to quantify costs, and then compare alternative costs with maintenance and construction costs through a small CAPEX-OPEX analysis. This will help identify the best possible solution. Such an approach requires highly skilled engineers, which can make the design phase more expensive.
