One thing i found helpful when i listen actively is that i am mindful of my body language. I ensure i have an open body language and i am careful that i am positioned myself in away that to communicates positively. Mirroring body language shows that we are in tune and this is important when working with families. We won’t always agree but for me it’s important that families i work with understand that i am willing to listen and advocate for their needs.

On a daily basis while working, I practice engagement by active listening. Making certain that I engage in real-time understanding of what is being shared by periodically checking in with clients during their sharing of situations, and thereby displaying my understanding of what they are communicating. Because of this, persons served tend to give more meaningful information, thereby assisting me in getting to what they really need. Active listening is communication of understanding, as much as it is a method to pinpoint true areas of need rather than superficial areas of emotion.

Simply being interested and asking - “Tell me more about that” - is helpful to show genuine interest and it also helps to get to know the customer better!

On thing I have learnt is that in interacting with clients, there's a tendency for continuous speech and actions, some which of may not not fall in line with desired goals or clients expectations. However, the pressure to maximize time and lack of opportunity to take momentary purses to organize our thoughts and deliver them in a rather relaxed and productive manner may be salvaged by after-action-review in personal reflection moments. Through reflection, we can identify what was not spoken or done in line with the client's need and make provisions to fit them in or make adequate corrections with a follow-up plan.

In my experience, periodically restating what you heard the client state not only clarifies what they are saying, but also reinforces that you’re attentive and actively listening during a session. When clients feel heard and understood it increases the likelihood that they share what’s going on in their head and heart and increase the chances for a positive outcome in therapy.

Approach with clients authenticity and being sincere with your interactions ,be yourself,keeping calm and comfortable eye contact and showing honesty facial expressions give clients feelings worth.showing interest and don’t judge or make assumptions, show empathy and respect to give clients feel seen, heard, and valued,take time to listen and empathize and full attention by limiting distractions. Motivation interview techniques and using emotional intelligence to give them feel worth and appropriate react to them.Providing environment to encourage them to participate and engagement to their problems solving and create action plan to give them responsibilities.
