Why not do both? Most educational institutions allow you to apply your passion into your learnings. If you do have a cutting edge idea map it out and approach your education institution with your idea? Or if you are passionate, start your own company to help you realise the dream.

Think also about the impact you want to have. Are you content to make a big impact on a few learners ir are you more enthusiastic at spread your message wide? Do you like doing traditional things well or is innovation more your thing?

On the other hand, working at an EdTech organization based on your area of expertise might enable you to make a global impact.

If you want to shake things up, or if you see a gap that could transform lives edtech might be the best way to do that..If its more about knowing the individual student that excites you then stick with traditional education.

Correct, you need to have the correct technical experience, not necessarily supported by qualifications, there are many people out there that a self taught, and can demonstrate these skills. This all comes back to your idea, what needs developing. Again if you have an idea, map it out, clearly identify what you believe is missing in the curriculum do lots of research, and approach an edtech company, if they truly want people that come from an educational field they will find a way to work. I have!

In addition to software development, data analysis and UX design, animation skill is also one important skill that is valuable to edtech companies. Creating interactive animations that can be used to reinforce teaching-learning process could go a long way.

It is very necessary to be trained as an educator. It's not a joke and not what anyone can do because you will be shaping and molding lives.

The environment has a lot to do with your productivity and input. So be sure your environment is a friendly environment and not a toxic one.

Educational Institutions are localised and your idea may not go further than there. Depending on the Edtech company, it could go on to be broader reaching - however, this will heavily depend on, is the idea meant to be for the educational institution you are currently working at? Or can you see the potential of it helping others? You need to do lots of research, just because you may think it's a good idea, doesn't necessarily mean it is, research, research, research. Then if you believe it is a missing link in education, run with it.

Final consideration is one of the things to consider while making career decisions. It's probably the most important one. So while at it, consider how you prefer your income to flow. If you'd like to have some funds tucked away somewhere after your service years, educational institutions will be the way to go.

There's a lot of sitting and computer work in edtech but it's such an exciting space to get really innovative in delivering exciting education to a wide range of folks in a wide range of places. You can give amazing education to people who might not normally be able to access it. 😀 I love it!😉😀
