My advice is probably the least useful, for which I am apologizing in advance. I have not conquered an imposter syndrome in any of the jobs I held throughout my long career. Rather, I have learned to some extent to embrace it as a sign that I have never become an "expert," but have remained a student seeking new challenges and stepping outside my comfort zone. So, my advice to younger colleagues out there: do not "overcome" your imposter syndrome, do not settle into being an "expert". Rather, try to view your imposter syndrome as a sign that you are genuinely growing as a professional and as a person. Remain on the cutting edge of your comfort zone!

A turning point was when I decided to tackle a specific industry problem, breaking it down into manageable parts. This approach not only made the learning process more digestible but also showcased the real-world impact of data science, significantly boosting my confidence. Remember, focusing on one thing at a time can transform an overwhelming challenge into an achievable task.

I'd also add that it's worth trying to be objective about what the average data science skillset is really like. With toxic positivity and people hiding their knowledge gaps on LinkedIn, as well as AI influencers constantly hyping new technologies, it can feel overwhelming and as if you are a failure for not already knowing everything. The truth is that, in such a vast and rapidly growing field, knowledge gaps and constant learning are normal. It is unrealistic to learn everything new coming out; it is more realistic to choose 1-3 niches relevant to your career and focus mostly on those. Watch videos, read papers, go through github code, do tutorials, or whatever works, but try to learn something new on a regular basis (e.g. every week).

Who knows, maybe your failures will lead to some groundbreaking discovery that will make you the talk of the data science world. Or maybe you'll just end up crying into a pint of ice cream.
