Resume writing, while seemingly simple, is very important. You have to express your capabilities and skills on a single page. From my personal experience, resume writing was not an easy task. I knew it had to be concise and effective, but no matter how hard I tried, I ended up with several pages. However, after some research on how to write a resume, I realized the flaws in my approach. I initially thought that including every bit of knowledge, such as information about operating an ammonia compressor, would make my resume stronger, especially if I worked in the food industry. But now, with about 15 years of work experience, I understand that a good resume is not like that

I would like to present my opinion on this matter from two perspectives. First, from the viewpoint of a job seeker who sends out a resume, and second, from the viewpoint of a senior manager who reviews submitted resumes. From the job seeker's perspective, highlighting the hard and soft skills acquired or utilized during your work history gives the employer insight into your professional personality and helps match you to the desired job position. From the senior manager's perspective, this approach helps prioritize among submitted resumes and provides a relative understanding of your personality and professional performance. Additionally, the soft and hard skills listed on your resume indicate whether you are a multi-dimensional individual

Highlight relevant experience, like improving efficiency or managing teams. Showcase technical skills in inventory, budgeting, POS. Quantify achievements - "increased sales 15%." Use keywords for ATS. Keep resume concise and visually appealing. Tailor cover letters to each role. Open strongly to grab attention. Provide specific examples showcasing skills/achievements. Address qualifications directly. Close confidently, requesting interview or expressing enthusiasm. Create materials showcasing your unique value. Emphasize relevant experience, skills, accomplishments to position yourself as the ideal Food & Beverage Operations candidate.

Be sure to include staff trainings, hiring and product knowledge training for new staff and existing staff. This can also including safety training and emergency preparedness

As an assistant manager, restaurant manager, and General Manager I’ve reviewed thousands of resumes. Keep it short simple and tight. No more than one page, not including cover letter. Bullet points and Clear sections, with highlights only. Managers are extremely busy, and don’t have time to look at every little detail of your history. Tell me what you excel in using the simplest terms possible. I don’t need to know about debate clubs or winning a silver medal at a high school or college track meet. If you must tell me about that, make it good. I also, hate readying stories. I don’t have time for that. Highlights and bullet point, if it’s too busy with info, I toss it aside for when I have more time and I never have more time

Don’t be afraid to build your work experience. Be detailed and thorough. Of course your strengths are important however knowing yourself and your areas for improvement are also important. No one is perfect, willingness and ability to show professional growth are important.

Always having at least 2 people review and check for grammar. It’s important to ensure you are putting your best self forward. Today the first impression is often on paper and not in person. Words can be your friend or can mean being passed over with unnecessary mistakes.
