Here's how you can cultivate collaboration and teamwork in Agile organizations as an executive.

Agile simply means that everyone is a leader. Being part of an agile team makes you take responsibility/ownership of tasks and creates initiative to make the team even better. Also, by participating in stand-up and other concepts of agile, the team is bonded even more closely and this leads to productivity as everyone in the team knows exactly what progress has been made.

To foster collaboration in Agile organizations as an executive, lead with vision, create safe spaces for open communication, and encourage cross-functional collaboration. Empower teams with autonomy and transparency while facilitating continuous feedback. Recognize and reward collaborative efforts to reinforce the value of teamwork. By prioritizing collaboration and teamwork, executives can cultivate an Agile culture that thrives on collective effort, adaptability, and innovation.

Leading by example also involves being inclusive with your team. When you engage and delegate activities amongst yourselves, you find yourselves continuously improving and delivering. A regular retrospective can also enhance and keep this process encouraging.

As an agile coach, empowering teams is fundamental. Grant them autonomy in decision-making, fostering morale, ownership, and accountability. Trust their expertise, avoid micromanaging, and offer clear goals and resources. Encourage self-organization, cultivating a collaborative environment where teams naturally work together together towards goals.

Participating in agile events not only enhances project outcomes but also increases recognition for individual contributions. Therefore, prioritizing these ceremonies and approaching them with rigor can lead to numerous long-term benefits for team members.

Empowering team includes entrusting resources with the freedom of creativity and allowing them to take ownership gradually. Appreciation should be vocal and visible as it helps individuals feel boosted and ready to work with more determination.

Empowering your team helps them face challenges. Provide them with clear goals and the resources they need, then allow them to self-organize. By doing this you are fostering collaboration and teamwork.

Empowered & motivated teams can do wonders in the organisations. They are already an example set for others. This helps in creating leaders across levels.

Ask for and provide support to your Agile teams and/or the Agile Transformation. Ask teams and the organization to support the Agilists as they will be the multipliers. In turn, Agilists should be transparent with stakeholders including management/leadership supporting and receiving support for success!

Encouraging collaboration in the team is most effective way to address the gap. Provide platform for the regular communication within the team and also with other stakeholders on regular basis, make use of tools like Teams, zoom meetings, and regular connects in the office premises helps in building healthy and better communication to resolve the conflicts in agile.

Encouraging communication is something I will vouch for to bridge that gap between the teams. Communication is one of the skills which cover almost every aspects in the work setting. Working in an Agile environment, it is very important for each and every members of the team irrespective of their positions to communicate and let the work done with least resistance. We should encourage regular share of information and activities done to do the assigned task. Collaboration and communication can help a team and its members to create a healthy environment for each other at the work place. Working in an Agile environment encouraging communication will be very helpful for smooth functioning of the whole project.

Communication is one thing that is mistaken for talking. Encourage them to effectively communicate to each other and not just talk. Communication style varies, facilitating a culture where all voices can be heard is the key

Chat with everyone, see what's working, what's a pain. Don't be afraid to switch things up! Agile is all about working together in a way that keeps getting better, not just a fancy label.

By setting up teams to be small and self-organizing, they are able to make quicker progress every day because they have the skill sets and autonomy to make the right decisions every day to deliver value.

Each of these are important to collaboration, but I would like to specifically emphasise the need to enable & sustain an environment of psychological safety -so team members feel comfortable & confident to engage & work together as a team. It’s important to encourage the continued feedback loop- to timely identify the areas( and people) that need attention and work on it

📌 Find the common enemy! 💡 As an executive we need to be able to build a cohesive team, where the team member knows exactly the goal of a project and will work together as a team. 💡 To achieve that, this is my recommendation: - Create a common goal that relates to the (personal) goal of team member - Write the common goal down on a paper and put it somewhere so that team member can see it easily - This will remind us to keep the alignment and make us aware about the goal 💬 Example of common goal is to beat competitor, to excel in certain areas, to catch up deadline (time), etc. Without common goal, it is difficult to cultivate collaboration and teamwork.

As an executive, applying Agile may involve understanding its principles, aligning them with organizational goals, supporting transformation, empowering teams, setting clear expectations, removing roadblocks, promoting continuous improvement, providing leadership, measuring progress, and adapting iteratively.

Get the culture of Agile firmly embedded in the organisation. This is more than an exercise in re-labelling. Far too often Leaders continue to operate in the traditional patterns while proclaiming the benefits. Don’t be fooled - your people quickly grasp that reality and this can quickly devalue benefits gained.
