With advancement of artificial intelligence, our technology stacks are evolving at an accelerated pace. Thus a robotics team, would need to continuously learning new trend/technology/tools to get on-par or ahead of the peers. The best way to learn new trend without traveling, would be reading published papers; the best way to learn new trend while traveling, is to attend leading conferences and talk with peers face to face.

Hands-on experience is crucial in order to grow your robotics team. I strongly encourage more teach pendant time to get the best experience when learning. There still should be adequate classroom time to review key terms and methods prior to the experience. Hand on teach pendant experience is important because it shows you physically how the robot is working and gives you a real-life experience vs. simulation. This demonstrates where a person should be when programming a robot, not standing in the way of the robot and its work piece, and not in any pinch points. This also gives a perspective on how the dress package acts as the programmer plays back their path to ensure everything works as intended.

Let me share a personal story. In one of my early robotics projects, our team faced a persistent issue: the robot's navigation system was constantly failing. We spent countless hours troubleshooting, only to find more problems. It was frustrating, but instead of giving up, we embraced the setbacks. Each failure taught us something new, leading us to innovative solutions we hadn’t considered before. This experience reinforced the importance of resilience and a positive mindset. Remember, every setback is a lesson in disguise, paving the way for breakthroughs in robotics.

A creative environment is the birthplace of innovation, so what does it mean? (1) the environment should be open, any idea or crazy thought, should be respected and give a chance to try (2) the environment should be tolerating failures. Failures is the mother of success, and many creative ideas/product is created after many failures. so it is okay to fail, and should fail early and often (3) the environment should allow time to try. If there is tight deadline or schedule, one might consider short-cuts and won't be able to fully experiment with creative ideas. It is critical for leaders to provide such creative environment to the team

When you collaborate and take advantage of getting experience with robotics experience. Give the regular technicians a chance and you will be surprised at what you find. I am currently doing backwards. I started on step 2. Now I am doing the education, I am older so things were discovered about myself that I didn't even know.
