One thing that I've found handy is trying to split an issue into multiple tiny issues and try to go through and debug or troubleshoot them untill I reach the main cause. Like sometimes when we face networking issues, we first try to identify its cause by splitting it between Wan and Lan, later in Lan we further split them into devices and the connectivity between them. Such analogies can be applied anywhere when troubleshooting as a System or Network administrator.
