Delegating tasks is the first step, you need it as a manager, your team needs it. But it's only a first step. The second step is to delegate responsibility for results, which implies accepting that they achieve the result by doing things differently, and providing they are within company rules, you will be positively surprised by the creativity that your people might use, by the inventiveness, by the originality of their solution to the issue you delegated. If you only delegate tasks you will never see that.

Give time to understand what every individual in your team is good at. Once you are clear with that, it will be very easy for you to delegate tasks. Wrong delegation may hamper the confidence of your team members, you be very careful with that.

Most of the times when employees fail to perform any task or project in the way we wanted, it is because we didn't give them enough clarity on it. Problem starts with the leadership. If an employee goes wrong, the leader should first see what was his mistake. Educating the employees should always be the second line of action.

Especially at the beginning, your team might be wary of coming back to you to make sure they are doing fine. That of course depends very much on the company, its organization, its culture. In my long managerial life, before I started my new profession as career transition consultant, I have met a few ineffective managers. Their common trait was the unwillingness to delegate, and in most cases it wasn't because they did not know how, it was because of fear of being potentially replaced by their subordinates. This power game in my mind has always been the strongest obstacle to effective delegation. I was very lucky in being taught the opposite principle: if you are irreplaceable, you cannot be promoted to higher roles, therefore your role as a manager, in your own interest as well as in the interest of the company and of your team, is to teach them all you know and delegate as much as possible. An important lesson.
