Here's how you can foster a sustainable and inclusive future through Social Impact.

Too often people use impact interchangeably with "outputs" and "outcomes." For example, 157 employee volunteer hours is not an impact, nor is it an outcome. From the perspective of a CSR leader, it might arguably be an "output" of all the effort the CSR team put into planning and executing the volunteering activity, but in pure social impact terms, those 157 hours are an input. So lets reframe how we think and talk about these things. 157 hours (input) > 300 lunches boxed (output) > 60 kids have lunch for a week (outcome) > those kids graduate high school with higher GPAs and go to college because they're not hungry (impact). Those 157 hours are GOOD! But they're not the goal.

Implement environmentally-friendly practices and support initiatives that balance economic, social, and environmental goals. Engage marginalized communities in decision-making processes to ensure their voices are heard. Build partnerships with organizations that share your commitment to sustainability and inclusion. Regularly measure and report on your impact to stay accountable and adapt strategies as needed. By integrating these principles, you contribute to a more equitable and sustainable world.

Social value is a global concept. If we take social value to be benefits and improvements that are created for individuals, communities, and wider society, encompassing the impacts on social well-being, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability; then UN's Sustainable Goals can be viewed as the largest social value framework. Achievement in those 17 pillars show the social impact of a country, organisation, or project. Success of a country for example, is more than just GDP and to deliver impact is to succeed across the framework. The work we see, predominately in the public sector focuses on delivering these impacts at place in communities across the UK. This place based value shows local impact against these global goals.

La participación local es fundamental y poder integrar a tu cadena de valor, proveedores locales, fortalecer tu comunidad inmediata y diseñar los programas locales sociales de la mano con tus grupos de interés es clave tener su retroalimentación y se convierte en un círculo sostenible virtuoso.

En mi experiencia para lograr realmente la escala e impacto social a su máximo potencial se logra en función de alianzas multisectoriales, donde es fundamental, sumar en el esfuerzo, sector privado, sector público, ONG's, sector académico y cuando sumas a los medios de comunicación para apoyar a dar a conocer los buenos resultados, proyectos, se logra crear un efecto mariposa sostenible.

Collaboration is absolutely key, and is ultimately what leads to scale and systemic change. But massive disruption rarely begins with collaboration, because the ideas and concepts that lead to disruption are often viewed skeptically by the systems that can scale them (who will ironically also be the ones disrupted). So my advice is to not let collaboration get in the way of action. Take your idea and become the spark, then when the time is right, go find people who can help by being kindling and fuel.

En mi experiencia el fijar metas de corto, mediano y largo plazo en los proyectos sostenibles es fundamental, los KPI's deben ser igual de rigurosos de cualquier indicador de negocio, donde la medición y reporte de avances debe ser con total transparencia para todos los grupos de interés.

En mi experiencia al documentar la metodología y resultados de los programas de impacto social y también incluir el sector académico se convierte en un aliado natural para escalar el impacto y resultados. El incubar proyectos dentro del sector educativo es un ganar - ganar, al poder documentar y compartir mejores prácticas en un ambiente de mejora continua.

One major blocker to innovation in the social impact space is many funders' unwillingness to fund big bets. "Big Philanthropy" still wants sure things, and too many brilliant social innovators don't want to be the person that took the $100 million grant and failed miserably. We need to take a Silicon Valley approach to social impact. Big, bold bets. Lots of failures. But then, every once in a while an approach that changes the world. There are some funders beginning to warm to this approach, but we need it to spread!
