Every new project must start with vision & mission statements of whether to pursue technology that can make the organization more productive, efficient, and cost effective. And the old-fashioned traditional analysis/planning to look at the feasibility, benefits, and costs of new technology is still pertinent in 2024. We need to conduct detailed "structured interviews", gather "user stories", brainstorm on future, etc. One must gather user information & process requirements 1st, before they can logically craft a TECH solution. Gathering business needs should focus more on defining HUMAN PROCESSES and less on technology (even though specific TECH goals like AI or cloud may already be part of early planning).

While implementing New Technology will make project plans a little more risky & add many detailed TECH steps. However, both tactical & strategic planning must look at project as a whole. Having new state-of-the-art software is only 1 aspect of many to consider strategically for the project as a whole. Agile, PMBOK, Prince & other PM methodologies focus on balancing human/tech/costs/etc. to optimize corporate strategy for a brand new project EXAMPLES of strategic questions to consider during planning: Will the new technology make daily work more efficient? Will extra TECH costs be offset by improved sales, efficiencies, & user productivity? Will the new technology be relevant 5 years from now? What are the TECH install/support needs?

Rather than converting all users at once early in the project life cycle - it is better to thoroughly research all new TECH requirements. Many vendors have customer references & even potential to visit to get a 1st hand look. Secondarily, there is a need to LAB TEST & later PILOT TEST new TECH solutions. This is especially needed for radical changes, such as moving an APP from an internal network to the cloud. It is important to ensure on a small scale that major TECH changes will work as planned when fully implemented. New TECH solutions benefit from a thoughtful, gradual, and well planned approach.
