Before I do anything, the students need to be curious to find out more and need to respond to those thought-provoking questions posed by the facilitator, in return they need to ask some thought-provoking questions indicating that they really have done their readings. When discussing varied content, and real life situations applying them to the theory, it seems the students become engaged, and to ensure that they are really engaged and they have learned from the process, reflection would be the best method - my preference usually to have a reflection after each of the sessions, so, they can see what they have learned, what they have missed out on, and how they can benefit more in the future, thus setting up tasks to themselves, and acting.

As an embedded trainer at an aircraft manufacturer I was hired to take all the PowerPoints by retired subject matter experts and use Toolbook and e-learning platform to create qualification and recertifications online content. Some subjects had extensive wording and lots of reading so to liven it up I found a world renown person in that expertise like say shielded cables and broke down his talk and every 3 minutes had a multiple choice question or true and false or matching to make sure his presentation wasn’t going in one ear and out the other. The results were so nice in the lab after the test they told me how nice it was to hear how to do their work from a specialist and breaking it down in segments made them retain the information

Reflective practice is, in my view, the El Dorado to be achieved, both before and after changes in behaviours and attitudes, and even before and after measuring the impact generated by the implementation of training. Only by reflecting on the needs, the changes to be made, and the results to be achieved and then achieved, can we all, as an ecosystem (trainer, trainee, coworkers, managers, and beneficiaries), be truly involved in what I call the "objective of training objectives" in a logic of "humans with resources" and not "human resources," as I like to call it.

As a distance learner myself in the past, just having to read script can be dry and loose the students interest very quickly as well as lead to high dropout rates. When lectures and teachers make the learning fun and engaging through videos, whiteboard presentations, games, quizes etc., students will also learn and remember more thus gaining so much that can then be applied in the real world. Who has watched a ted-x or been in a meeting were people reading from a script in a monotone drew in high views or engagement? The best Ted-X etc is colourful, engaging, inclusive of fun things and humour etc. Its a good lesson for all who teach.

Context and ease of use can be just as inspiring as the flashy stuff.
