I have found that you won't get good connections at most schools. But, if you go to college in LA, NY or Atlanta or Chicago, you could make great connections that will help your career. I got a degree in Texas no one I met there helped me. But then I took some extension classes at UCLA when I moved to LA and I made great connections there, and it didn't cost much.

No one needs a degree to work in film or TV. I've worked on over 6,000 productions and I've never been asked about my education. But I do have a degree. The degree itself didn't help, but practical experience did. If you go to school, think of every project as a portfolio piece to sell yourself once you get out of school. Build a portfolio, understand how the industry works and get experience on equipment you can't afford otherwise. If you can't afford school, spend money on specific courses and equipment and build a portfolio on your own. Save samples of everything you do that's great to help promote yourself.
