Learn some basic SQL and data engineering first and get into any related role - BIE, BA and start working on hands-on stuff. You'll soon see how data flows and why algos are needed. You'll then naturally gravitate towards automating your own tasks via ML techniques and this you'll have to learn concepts of stats and data science to completely and actually do it.
