Once you perform an effective risk assessment, you'll see that not all risks have the same impact, possibility or probability. One more thing you'll see after risk assessment is going to be the cost of risk mitigation. of course you'll start with the greatest impact with lowest cost, but you'll see that treatment of some risks would be more expensive than the worst case scenario about that particular risk. Would you spend 100 dollars to treat a 30 dollar risk? That depends on your policy.

Incident Response is a heart of Security Operations to deal with any security threats which can occur in enterprise organisation. Having an well defined plan ensures team have detailed steps to overcome any security threats or incidents and they have capability to mitigate it in well defined process. Decision making plays a crucial role in remediating threat in ongoing events.

Across the spectrum of protection, detection and mitigation a critical focus must be placed on Third Party Risk Management . Over the last 14 + years, analysis of incidents that can be attributed reveals a key reality: third parties continue to be the source of the vast majority of such incidents . A formal, risk-based program addressing the security practices across your entire third party ecosystem is essential. Moreover, that program must include: ✔️ logical operational security, ✔️ behavioral security, ✔️ information security, ✔️ physical security, ✔️ intellectual property protection and ✔️ privacy. A weak link in your third party ecosystem's security provides an aperture for attackers to enter.

I would say, beyond the regular monitoring is the need to have situational awareness, being able to monitor and understand how the regulatory landscape evolves, how the technology changes and impacts your business, threats and risks and so on. This will ensure that you are able to judiciously plan the strategic battles that would like to win, it will also help you deploy resources (human and financial) accordingly.

Focusing on the word “measure”. As I taught in my book (Converged Security Metrics) , you need more then just stats in you “measures for decision making”, you need metrics. If you have 6 simple pie charts on a dashboard, red is bad, green is good and some high integrity data and simple percentages, decision making, risk discussions, become quite simple.

This means that it is now inevitable for the security perspective to be included in the top decision-making authorities. Therefore, security risks must be recognized as an important business risk.
