It's very, very hard to break away from the constant notifications that plague most remote workers. One thing I would highly recommend is buying your team their own work phones. On that phone goes the apps, messaging tools, email, etc. Nothing personal. They are required to have this phone active and on them from 9-5 (or whatever hours work for your business). This immediately creates some guard-rails on the attention and focus of the employee and promotes a much better work-life integration!

What I did for my team is to promote efficiency. Instead of expecting someone to spend 8 hours on their work, encourage them to provide 8 hours worth of value instead. If my team can finish those task in 4 hours, then they deserve free time for the rest of the day. We should always reward efficiency. We achieve this by 1. Make sure that everyone is working on high-ROI work that worth their time and not overthinking small stuff. 2. Replace hour long meeting with short 5-min loom video summary. My team work completely async and communicate by sending video to each other. 3. Encourage team to automate their repetitive work and free up more time.

In my experience, achieving a work-life balance often depends on the degree of trust between manager and team, particularly when we're discussing remote or distributed teams. Trust your team that they can manage their time and tasks and help them prioritize when needed. Encourage team members to own their schedule, including saying "no" to meeting requests that don't explain why someone needs to dial in (for example, declining meetings with no agenda).
