Whether starting your own business or choosing to work for a well known retailer, "e-commerce" is a gigantic field with opportunities in many specialized areas. Search or use tools like chatGPT to uncover a list of specific e-commerce roles. You'll find a diverse selection of careers that are essential to operating a large e-commerce business - such as marketing, design, analytics, logistics, cybersecurity, privacy and compliance, retail media and many, many more. Use this list as the starting point to identify areas of focus and job titles that interest you and align with your previous experience.

Pivoting to e-commerce later in your career might seem daunting, but it's absolutely possible. When I made the switch, I leaned heavily on my existing skills, like project management and communication, which are highly transferable to the e-commerce world. I also took online courses to fill in knowledge gaps, like learning the basics of SEO and digital marketing. Don't be afraid to start small, perhaps by freelancing or working for a smaller company to gain hands-on experience. Understanding your market is key when launching a product. You need to identify things outside just market potential. In 2024 I believe the biggest key is understanding your audiences attention. Where do they find go to find products or services. By understanding attention you are able to better craft a sales/marketing plan. At the end of the day, logos, colors, brand story etc, doesn't mean anything if you can't sell your product. Another big component is competition. The market you are entering is never vacant. Learn how your competitors engage with their customers, learn what people like and dislike. Find a niche within the niche and figure out a way to provide to the neglected.

Competitor Analysis: Study your potential competitors to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and strategies. This can help you carve out a niche or identify areas for improvement.
