Dust ourselves off, and like clockwork, it's back to the grind. That's the thrill of failure, folks. Let's welcome it, celebrate it, because it makes us better leaders!

Narratives start with wording. There’s nothing to embrace or disregard- failure is not a fact it’s a judgment. It’s the one you’ve been encouraged by schooling and society to adhere to. Measuring performance doesn’t need to be so loaded

Throughout my experience, I've come to embrace failure as an essential part of the journey to success. For me, every failure brings valuable lessons. I also encourage my team members to view failure as a step toward success. As Arianna Huffington said: ‘Failure is not the opposite of success; it's a part of success.' By adopting this mindset, we can learn from our mistakes, grow from our setbacks. In that sense failure is a true leadership asset.

In the moment you probably did everything you thought was right based on the information you had at the time so don't treat it as a "mistake" but an opportunity to learn and get better for the next time you are facing a similar situation. Leadership mastery is about the process to consistently practice the things that will help you grow and improve and being less attached to the outcome of each event.

Deep reflection is the unsung hero of turning failure into a leadership superpower. It's not just about analyzing what went wrong but diving into the 'why' behind it. Use these insights to develop a personal action plan. Reflect on how small, fast, iterative experiments could have mitigated the failure. Ask yourself: What micro-experiments can you implement to limit the blast radius of future missteps? I challenge you to identify one recent failure and design a mini-experiment to address it. This approach will not only refine your strategies but also foster a culture of continuous improvement. And remember, reflect on what works and why too.

Because they know that life is not perfect and that we all have failures, they look to work for leaders that have made mistakes too, just like them, because that makes them more relatable, more human and more real. That makes it critical for leaders now to develop the skill of humility to admit when they have failed. That, far from making them unpopular, makes them more credible, which helps them to be more relatable and closer. Leaders need to learn a new skill: The skill to not need to be a winner 100% of the time. To no longer need to be perfect. Just need to be real and human.
