How can BIM be used to create sustainable designs?

That’s mostly true, but for environmental impact of transportation it can be challenging. Incase of prefabrication, precast, and modularisation it’s true that it can make a huge reduction in waste generation. Considering that prefabrication done within factories/special fabrication places then how far those places from the project site! As i experienced, we have modular unit in one of our project that transported from 3000 km far city (Road trip). You can imagine how much Carbon dioxide were generated during this trip.

In order to enhance resilience and adaptability one thing that BIM can help is with the use of simulations of climate and environment conditions that can happen in the future. Today the use of AI is also important to this aspect. In BIM the information that you extract from your model is the key to seek for the questions that your design will answer.

I have a feeling that such kind of articles being generated by Linkedin is creating a "filter bubble". It biases people to believe that the premise is a correct one, and all we have to do is to support it. I disagree that BIM can really contribute to sustainability. The "B" of BIM talks about the building. Mostly in the final states of design. But the issue of sustainability starts right from when the design was just a glimmer in the architect's eyes. By the time a design is placed in BIM, a lot of decisions are already taken that affects sustainability. The horses have already run away hither-thither. BIM responds to iterations during the finalization state, and not earlier. So it can do some minor contribution, but not more.
