How can visual inspection improve quality control in manufacturing?

Esse tipo de inspeção é necessária para a confiabilidade de um componente ou produto. Tendo em vista uma boa produtividade na área de produção evitando desgaste precoce. A inspeção visual é importante pois é o primeiro passo passa da manutenção, podendo evoluir para uma correção, preventiva ou preditiva.

The largest time-sinks in effectively executing a vision system for inspection are defining the criteria and training the model. Combining these activities early leads to better results in less time. Vision inspection system criteria are qualitative, and thus subject to the judgement of the group compiling the criteria. Emphasize defining requirements in terms that can be easily realized by a vision system. For instance, a camera cannot easily 'see' the depth of a scratch, so defining 'depth of scratch' isn't helpful. To the camera, a 'scratch' is a group of pixels in a line that are a different color. How long does a scratch have to be before it's a reject? What shape is a reject scratch? What color is a scratch on your material?

Due to monotonous kind of work the visual inspector losses interest to work and starts casual inspection leading to failure in quality inspection. In my opinion there should be regular refresher training for the same and poison cake test should be conducted for inspectors on regular intervals.

São muitos os desafios na inspeção, desde tempo até formas de fazê-la. Porém tudo começa por ela, com esse tipo de inspeção temos um caminho do que pode ser feito. O inspetor precisa ser bem crítico em suas avaliações para que seu equipamento ou produto inspecionado tenha uma boa performance.

Written procedures can tell me a lot about your company. They will tell me how well you and your management work as a team to achieve your agreed upon product. If you have quality issues, it would (IMHO) prolly be in variables within the visual inspection... how is this addressed in your SOPs? Address/document it in the QA notes. Address it at the next QA meeting, document the progress in a designated file.... even sticky notes!

Visual inspection cannot improve quality of product, but can improve quality control. Inspection is a reactive function for compliance identification and verification. Only when a non-compliance is identified, poka-yoke, documented and standardised can it improve quality control. Inspection doesn’t add value, but time is a valuable resource in manufacturing. Eliminating a non-compliance can gain valuable seconds wrt inspection times and output.

Visual inspections can only improve quality if the person inspection is showing what the person doing the project what is wrong. Then it’s up to the person doing such project to listen and adjust their own practices to get better results.

Según mi experiencia, (opinión referida a la industria metal mecánica) la inspección visual es lo mas inmediato para verificar la calidad con que se está realizando un trabajo es la instancia que precede a los ensayos y posteriores pruebas, mediante inspección visual se verifican los materiales, los insumos de soldadura, la certificación de las maquinas, los procedimientos y personal, la estricta aplicación de los procedimientos, soldaduras terminadas defectuosas, recubrimientos defectuosos, espejos de flanges rayados, empaquetaduras no aptas, y muchas otras cosas que minimizan los costos durante los ensayos y pruebas finales.
