How can you align your WMS with your warehouse's business goals?

In my experience, just like defining your ICP, you must understand your internal impasses, issues, and showstoppers that enable the company to move forward in a smoother way. A key factor that I have encountered is to have your CRM sync with the WMS. Why? By applying information on customers, KPIs, and real-time data; Better decisions can be implemented. The true fact is that a customer can provide feedback, and have it analyzed, understood, and implemented to maximize retention and customer satisfaction.

The Warehouse Management System (WMS) is crucial for managing inventory and ensuring customer satisfaction. It's important to select a WMS that is user-friendly and easily integrates with your E-Commerce platform. Dashboards play a significant role in tracking employee KPIs. Data validation requires proper import and export processes.

In my opinion, understanding your current warehouse situation and conducting a SWOT analysis, gap analysis, or process mapping exercise is crucial. Defining KPIs and aligning WMS goals with business objectives can lead to a more efficient and successful implementation.

I will plan my quarterly/ yearly targets. Basis those work backward to plan operations activities to ensure I see results in comparison to the targets.

In order to choose the right WMS you must gain a thorough understanding and knowledge of your warehouse operations and their interactions with other functions/departments. Hire a consultant to help you identify the shortcomings in your current way of working and pinpoint opportunities for change and improvement. Make everything involved in the installation process willing to embrace the change. You will face the so-called "resistance to change" effect, so you must make everybody aware of the goals and the benefits from the installation of WMS and the modifications it will bring to their daily routine. Don't just try to show something so radical out of the blue and impose it. Without the collaboration and support of key users, it will fail.

Very expensive - decides within your budget or decides for the best. *Check if you can modify your current ERP. If not, choose the one that fits your current mother system - this is to ensure that there will be no problems in syncing the data because that is one of the pain points when they are not suitable, there are data delays in the mother system which affects the other system viewers.

The most important thing is to train your team how to use ERP or WMS software. How to make make report. How import data from WMS . How to increase the performance of WMS. How to manage inventory level. How maintain minimum stock. How to make maximum stock. How to make reorder level. and then ABC Analysis technic will help to maintain the inventory management.

You can have a great WMS but you need accurate counts from goods in, to replenishment, otherwise you will have colleagues trying to pick stock that is not there, then re-picks etc, which in turn leads to customer dissatisfaction. If you have more stock than you think, this can also be a problem with out of date stock. The best thing to remember is rubbish in , rubbish out - get it right first time.

The transition is very challenging, make sure to plot the plan properly. *Stop the operations during the transition - when operation team say "stop operations" please do so and do not insist on continuing the operations because if you insist it will cause trouble in entering the initial inventory, the work will only double if you force the transition and fulfillment at the same time. Take note that once the inventory is inaccurate, you can expect that your order fulfillment will be affected worst, your performance on E-commerce platforms will drop, so don't force it.

When you already have a WMS, don't be satisfied with just what has been started. Customers' requirements will always be changed the same as business goals so you must always be able to adapt to the changes or else your WMS will only be left as for the purpose of inventory level monitoring.

Advantages: *Order fulfillment - it speeds up the fulfillment of orders because it speeds up picking activity, updating inventory, cycle counting and etc. *Eliminates paper activities - since the process is systematic, usually the conversation is more on the system. *WMS is user friendly, make sure those who use it are accountable. And make sure that someone randomly checks the transactions. this is just to ensure that the transactions in the system are correct.
