How can you celebrate milestones with stakeholders?

Tell your story by heart and increase the engagement by your stakeholders to celebrate together. Also express your gratitude for their role in your success story. You never win alone but with each other.

A stakeholder constellation is one of my favorite tools to get insight in the subconscious dynamics between the stakeholders. It shows what really matters most in relation to the process and often offer very surprising insights that you wouldn’t have gotten without the constellation. It gives a deeper perspective on the energy involved.

Show Gratitude:Express your gratitude by personally thanking each stakeholder for their support and collaboration. Share Success Stories:Share success stories, case studies, or testimonials that highlight the impact of the milestone on your stakeholders' lives or businesses

Celebrating milestones with stakeholders involves strategic and inclusive communication. Start by clearly defining and communicating the achieved milestone, emphasizing its significance. Utilize various channels such as newsletters, press releases, or social media to share the accomplishment with a broader audience. Consider hosting virtual or in-person events, depending on the scale and preferences of stakeholders, to celebrate collectively. Personalized messages of appreciation, exclusive previews, or behind-the-scenes insights can add a thoughtful touch. Moreover, seek feedback from stakeholders to understand their preferences for future celebrations, ensuring ongoing engagement and positive relationships.

Share progress updates and success stories through newsletters, social media, or email communications. Personally thank stakeholders for their contributions and support. Consider giving tokens of appreciation, such as certificates, plaques, or branded merchandise. Invite stakeholders to participate in milestone celebrations to foster a sense of inclusivity and collaboration.

One thing I have learned over my career is that there is not a one size fits all approach to celebrating milestones. I once had a team member who hated public recognition. The ideal celebration for him when he celebrated 40 years with the company was a one-on-one interaction with his boss thanking him for his contributions over the years. Other employees have wanted a party with all the bells and whistles to celebrate their accomplishments. It's important to note what the receiver wants to create the most impact for that individual and tailor your approach accordingly.

Appreciative Enquiry is one of my favorite frameworks. In celebration I love stakeholders to reflect about two things: - what was the most memorable event during this cooperation/project? And why was this so important to you? - what strengths, talents and uniqueness did you add to the effort to make it that memorable? Without what specific contribution of YOU it wouldn’t have been this memorable?
