(B2B, or B2C) #2 What's the goal of your social program? #3 How big is your social team? #4 What kind of content do competitors post? #5 Do your prospects have the time to read a blog article, or would a video be better?

I'm going to say something crazy here: finding just ONE thing that works is really hard in content. Any most people are trying to do more than one most of the time. Before you can consider the mix of content you make, you need to understand WHY you're making the content in the first place. Are you trying to inspire people to become artists? Are you looking to create a video that Mom's share with their kids? Focusing on the outcome first is a way to simplify this. Don't worry about the "mix" when you're building. Just listen to your audience, they'll tell you :)

Knowing where your audience hangouts out is the most important factor for deciding platforms from my experience. Niching down is incredibly important for differentiating your brand from others online and if you are trying to reach everyone, everywhere, that task can become incredibly difficult. My business was built on Instagram and that was our sole focus while building up. Why? Because it was what we knew best and where out ideal client was. We invested hard into that demographic and tried not to worry about who we weren't reaching of Facebook or TikTok because when you building a loyal community for your brand you can't touch everyone all at once.

Knowing your audience is really important. But also knowing their viewing habits. Do they watch TikTok on weekends? Are they listening to podcasts in the mornings on their commute? Even knowing HOW your audience consumes content will be helpful when deciding how to mix your content up.

The main thing to remember here: aim for consistency! I don't care if you only have one type of content on your channel, as long as it's consistent. Remember, every new content series requires a new workflow to get made, so you want to be selective!

Knowing your resources is critical to deciding the right mix of content in your social media strategy. Speaking to the smaller teams out there (I see you hustling!), resource management is so important. Let's say you've decided that LinkedIn is your primary distribution channel because you're B2B and it's where your audience engages with you most, but your executive team has just decided that Tik Tok is where you need to be. It's time to evaluate where you're allocating your time, money, and talent. And more importantly, how can we cross-utilize that content? Can we take that concept from Tik Tok and turn it into a LinkedIn video too?

Try to be different to stand out. Videos, animation, and images are always a good choice. Add some character and differentiation to your content, aligning it to your brand voice and the customer persona.

Don't be afraid to experiment and iterate! Social media algorithms change, and audience preferences evolve. If you are willing to experiment with new content formats and strategies, you could strike gold. Learn from your analytics and adjust your content mix accordingly.

Forget about being perfect. Perfection is overrated. Your audience doesn't want to see a polished, flawless image. Try different things.... they want to see the real you, warts and all. Your authenticity will shine through and connect with your audience on a deeper level.

The bigger the mix the worse. Try to find ONE niche and stick to it. That way you can really OWN a content topic as opposed to tapping into various topics.
