We are lucky enough to have access to large data sources and challenges such as Kaggle. I personally believe that these are great ways to work on real-world problems. Just make sure you select one that is based on real company data.

We are living in a time where trends in AI are constantly changing. There are tons of great resources available, but there is a lot of noise. My suggestion is to stick to the "older" sources such as towards data science. This is a moderated blog with content from great authors. The hundreds of AI newsletters that popped up over the last couple months/years are less valuable in my opinion.
