Cloud platforms are a great way to do software engineering testing that does not have requirements directly tied to hardware. For example in my role I have used virtual instances to test baremetal deployment workflows by mimicking or creating a digital twin. This can be more cost effective and allow for faster iterations and cleanup without the necessary cost of investing in real baremetal. Where this model does breakdown however are in cases where the workflow relies on some BMC interaction like RedFish (which can be mimicked with Sushy tools but doesn’t necessarily meet all use case testing).
