Nowadays, many AI applications are built and run on cloud; that's why it is equally important to clarify which cloud service provider (AWS, Google, Microsoft, etc.) you will be using for your AI project. Even if you develop models locally, you will need cloud for deployment. I am familiar with AWS and their services like SageMaker and Bedrock; those services make it easy to develop and deploy the models.

AI applications are mainly composed of 2 elements. Model and backend service. To train and evaluate the model definitely use python. To serve the model, use any of the services from the cloud or create a python server and expose model inference as an API endpoint. AI models also need accelerators like GPU and TPU for faster serving. So better to decouple them. Backend service is needed for pre and post processing and handling authentication, database management, logging etc. To build this service, use language which suits your application well.

Apart from knowledge basis, it is equally important to be connected to the Data Science community using websites like Medium, Kaggle, Live Documentations, and famous Data Science YouTube channels to stay up to date with the upcoming AI technologies in the industry. It is also very important to read new Research papers in IEEE to know the technologies that you can develop for a better future.

IDP (Individual Development Plan) can be created using this matrix by all team members themselves.

Building on the competency matrix point -> Integrate it with real-time analytics that track project progress and individual contributions. This allows for dynamic adjustments to IDPs based on actual project needs and individual performance metrics. Periodic "Tech Talks" or internal webinars can be organized where team members present on a new skill they've acquired. This serves two purposes: it validates the skill on the matrix and educates the rest of the team. Lastly and super important -> don't overlook soft skills like problem-solving or effective communication, which are often as crucial as technical skills in complex AI projects. Add these to the matrix to create a more holistic development plan.

Get an AI company to do it for you, its something we don't have the time to hang around for and need the best in the field to work with. Over time you can train your team but work with the experts first.
