As a former intern I had to work with many teams within my company. Collaborating with other teams is a good experience to know how to adjust myself to work with them. As an intern I had a good circle around me to help, me to adapt to the new working process. As a fresher out of school my manager and the supervisor taught me how to shape-up my knowledge to match my role. They always gave me feedback about my work and kept a track about my daily work. As well as they set up one-on-one meetings to check my progress. I think it really helped me to upgrade my working abilities. My team members and other teams also helped me to fit in to the flow. They were so open minded and helped me to understand my strengths and weaknesses.

When you approach learning or gaining experience with purpose and intentionality, you increase your adaptability and resilience to challenges in a rapidly changing environment and are more likely to enjoy the experience. Never say no. Sometimes the opportunities do come our way but we with a limited scope refuse or think this is not applicable for our career growth. But if we could just start saying yes, and taking on new challenges then we'd be able to expand ourselves and gain that cross functional experience. Another way, is to take secondments and rotational opportunities offered in the company. Personally, I was able to get this because I said yes to a secondment which was quite different from my current role. Long story short, I really enjoyed my stint in other teams, expanded my bandwidth and made amazing friends along the way.

There are different organizations. Those where you can find opportunities and learning possibilities, and those where those things are not valued. You should seek the right place for you if you want to get opportunities organically.
