Certainly implementing an alternate pathway for communication increases reliability of the system but it considerably increases the product cost. Weight and space constrain is another challenge. Redundancy is a valuable tool to improve reliability but it comes with its own challenges, it should be adopted only if the benefits in terms of safety outweighs the cost and complexity.

Redundancy means in simple form even if some failure occurs, the data whatever that is still coming for safe operation of the vehicle. Working with this principle all the time surely increase the cost and sales figures of the vehicle which is something we do not want to. I would suggest that "all the time" to converted into "essentially necessary messages". These must be for the safe operation and regulative and safety critical ones.

I believe that “star” and “ring” are transposed here. Star topology requires more wiring and is overall more tolerant of a single node failing. Ring topology uses less wiring, is slower, and fails if any single node drops out.
