How can you maintain your sales enthusiasm and motivation long-term?

Make your objectives achievable. Salespeople are ambitious and target driven. we get satisfaction from achieving our goals and pushing the business forward. If we constantly fail the target because it's over the top, motivation will drop constantly up to a point of total disbelief

Make sure you set attainable goals! You can teach instead of tell and add fun elements to the equation. Sales are tough but have fun while doing it!

Me parece a mi que mi trabajo como vendedor se parece mucho a jugar baloncesto. Cada año tengo doce juegos y cada juego se divide en 4 semanas. Al igual que en baloncesto puedo tener un mal primer cuarto, en ventas puedo tener una mala primera semana, pero mantengo la motivación pues el juego no ha terminado. Siempre estoy mirando el objetivo final y voy ajustando a la medida que las semanas avanzan. Lo mismo para cada mes. Puede que haya perdido uno o dos juegos, pero no me quedo demasiado tiempo pegado allí. Una vez que entendí que tengo que mejorar, sigo jugando para llegar a mis metas. En resumen, mi motivación nace y se mantiene mirando siempre el objetivo final y también cada cierre de juego.

Coaching is one of the best things. I can't encourage it enough. Having someone help work through some of the challenges and being a safe place does wonders! My career completely sky-rocketed when I found a leader and a coach who believed in me.

One thing I have found to be helpful is to surround myself with others that are operating at a higher level than me. They might have more experience, a fresh perspective or a unique background. Not necessarily a coach, but someone that has information I find motivating or helpful in my own career. Alternatively, I have found it helpful to spend time with others that are just starting or are new to my industry. Their questions and viewpoints are usually enlightening. Coaching and feedback flows in both directions (giving and receiving).

Gamification is an efficient coaching approach with excellent noted results turning sales targets into engaging challenges with rewards compounding fun and competition that boosts team spirit. Positive reinforcement is a very helpful and supportive technique as well to help people to continue striving for success by acknowledging and celebrating both small and big achievements.

I think this can vary be quite a bit depending on the type of business you are in and the type of company that you work at. If its a smaller company there might not be a lot of people to seek out to obtain feedback or coaching. If this is a scenario that you find yourself in maybe search for a message forum or facebook group that shares a common interest with in the industry. For example if you are in Insurance find some insurance agent groups to join and maybe at first do not jump right in to the conversation, try reading a bit to gain a perspective on the direction of the group and make a contribution once you have an understanding of the topics being discussed. You do not want to come across as a newbie.

Be a learner always. Find motivation in every achievement. Find the learning curve in every setbacks. Ask help and support from peer and colleagues.

In my opinion, if you are reading industry specific blogs, websites and peer-reviewed articles, then you have either been on the correct path or you are getting on that path.

We must always be learning, situations constantly change due to different factors and we must adjust and re-educate ourselves to continue at the forefront, especially due to technology that is frequently evolving.

Upskilling is very important. Sales skill is just like sharpening the axe, the more you do the more better you get, Period. In my opinion watching YouTube videos of people who are into sales and closed big deals, reading books, blogs is one of the great ways to learn new things & also find inspiration.

There is always something to learn, products change all the time stay on top of it every chance you get, take notes, keep a log of your lessons you can always refer to them. Keep your mind fresh. You will always be ready to answer questions and back your products.

Discover your 'why'. What drives you personally, and how can you pull that passion into your sales role? For example, I work in sales for a commercial carpet manufacturer. When I start feeling frustrated or lose track of my focus, I think about the workers at the mill and how my sales contribute directly to the work they are doing. We are all part of a team, and my success not only helps my clients but everyone at the company. If you think about your sales efforts as helping others, the enthusiasm and motivation is easy to maintain. As humans, we are hard wired to help others, so a having a sales mindset of helping others is a secret motivation hack.

A lot of sales people maintain positive mindsets, but what they lack, is a sales mindset. Confidence can breed positivity the same way that short term successes can, but only when you adopt a true Sales mindset, can you really begin to break through and achieve great things. A sales mindset is all about helping your customers and prospects... and who (psychologically or emotionally) doesn't feel positive when they know they have helped someone?

Mental health in sales is very important. In my opinion the best way to do this is to prioritise the tasks. Keep required calls in a day / week / month so that you can take a break also in between. Take breaks and do activities that you love so that you are not involved so much into sales and forget your hobbies.l, give equal time to this as well. Take a vacation, spend time with your loved ones. Because it's important to balance between your work & life. And by doing this you are not stressing out but also doing sales & equal importance to your life as well and coming back stress free and with full energy.

Sales will always flow when your energy is higher, if you're not having any enjoyment and replenish time in your life then it will definitely show in your long term sales results. You'll make more long term consistent sales when you take time to enjoy life around you, have fun and replenish.

I learned a very long time ago, keep your head high and trust yourself, family is first they believe in you and have faith in you. Your family supports your efforts and all you do to move forward for yourself and family. Your work life becomes your work family, you walk in the doors ready, preparing your mind, and body. Have your tools to succeed for the day, and week. Always know we have a choice when things are rough or a hard day, you have family on both sides of that door who got your back.

Have you ever said?: - I just don’t feel like it today. - I’m just not up for prospecting for new business. - I’m just not motivated today. You may think you’re lacking motivation, and you are, but you’re missing is something crucial to motivation: Your Why. Why do you go to work every day? Money? Accomplishment? Purpose? Being part of something great? We all have our own Why or Whys. Motivation and your Why are linked. Statements like, I have no time to find new customers, just means your why isn’t strong enough. However, if your why is strong enough, if you want something badly enough, the motivation will come. All you need to do is plant your why, nourish it, and then watch your motivation grow.
