Many times people in technical roles are not the best communicators, especially with regards to emotional conflicts. This can lead to frustration and resentment. One approach that can help when resolving conflicts is to assume there is a misunderstanding, and the situation is simply due to different perspectives. Modeling, good communication, accepting your own accountability for issues, including defensiveness, or lack of respect or tact can go along way to show the team they can also be free to communicate. Creating a working relationship without fear in the room will give permission to everyone to innovate challenge and apologize as needed.

In my opinion, conflict among System Admins and Dev Team, is a mistake from Project Manager. One of his main reasons to exist, is to align Project Plan among all team members. The solution, sorry for this, is to change Project Manager, and re-start project charting and WBS, at least in the mis aligned porting in this project.

Putting Admins against Developers o viceversa doesn't really bring any benefit to either but bringing more pressure for both to deliver per the business Assuming we are speaking about a business need to be fufilled by a commercial available software vs. a Custom Legacy System, the Scrum Master/Product Owner should wprk on creating a partnership between both. While easier said than done,the objectives of this partnership shpuld focus on 1. Strive to use as much as possible of standard functionality (configuration) that only is complemented with complex work with Code/Scripts/API 2. Make the Administrator the Champion of the process. 3. Only use custom code to minimum 4. Focus on helping both sides on selling a Solution to the business

Developers build and admins must maintain. Too often the finger pointing is dismissed and folks get defensive. One non confrontational approach is to implement a logging procedure of instances. Manufacturers measure defects in production and use the data to focus on design and build processes. When it can't be attributed to the mechanics inability to keep cars running... same with developers. They should be accountable... with designers... for defects and persistent issues and mgt will use these stats as reaching tools and a means to drive KPIs and accountability metrics.

Communication is key to resolving any conflict. Having a clear vision, a shared sense of responsibility, accountability and ownership helps avoid conflicts in the first place. The agreements/KPIs on certain shared parameters should be constantly measured for improvement via automated dashboards. Root Cause Analysis and focus on solutions instead of problems is crucial.

Help everyone understand that they’re here to work together and to help the client achieve their objective for which they commissioned the organisation to help with. Don’t play favourites regardless of your background or own bias towards or away from each camp. Have a handful of simple rules you enforce without exceptions - for example no logins for developers in production (which is a good one to start off with) and maybe (no once-off manual changes outside change control by sys admins).

More recent approaches to devops and now opsdev can foster the kind of collaboration and interaction that leads to a leaner, more productive organization. Process and progress may in fact improve with a less contentious or "us versus them" mindset -- one that follows the demonstrably productive output like pair dev where 1+1 is greater than 2.

Althogh I've never held the formal title or position as QA Professional, I've worn that hat more than a few times as a Technical Support Engineer and Implementation Manager. For example for an implementation project, I would often test enhancement requests that I received from Development, and test them myself before implementing them or handing them over to a customer. My approach when doing the testing was not just to test to make sure that it would work, but to make sure it couldn't fell. In other words I would purposely try to break it (e.g. put in invalid or corrupt data). I wanted to make sure that it not only "worked", but was at least somewhat foolproof.
