How can you mix audio tracks like a pro in post production?

I always go by the motto that less is more when mixing tracks for rock, blues and country. Less effects and less processing is always better if you have super high quality recordings to start with. It really depends on how the final mix sounds in the stereo final but mixing in mono first is a great way to started. Then I like to pan the drums slightly to the left and the bass guitar slightly to the right. I like to keep piano, guitar and vocals centered and then any other tracks can be panned more than the drums or bass depending on the instrument to create more spatial fidelity and balance. A good tip for balancing levels in a mix is to listen to it in mono. It will give you an idea of what volume things are in the mix without tricking your ears in the stereo field. You'll get a truer representation of where your track or bus is actually sitting in comparison to all the other tracks. This is also something you'll want to check on multiple sets of speakers and/or headphones as they represent volume and frequency levels differently. It may sound good on your studio speakers but be too overpowering or muddy on earphones. I also recommend checking your track against other tracks you listen to so you can hear if anything seems noticeably quiet or loud in a playlist setting.

For EQ less is more. It's better to reduce than to boost if possible. You'll need to develop an understanding of how frequencies interact to do this effectively and know what kinds of frequencies in different instruments or vocal ranges tend to not work well for what you're doing. I'd recommend playing with an EQ plugin and seeing what the different ranges do to the sound and how that compares to processed audio.

You can’t. Get a professional to do it for you. The studio you hire will come with an engineer who knows the room - use him. There’s so many considerations that you can’t afford to learn by your mistakes - it’s irrelevant what it sounds like to you : how will the recipient access it ? Through their phone ? Experience is just that - if you don’t have it, buy it.

All the suggestions only add up to the basics. A 'pro' has mastered the basics and has many hours of practical experience. There's a reason a 'pro' is an expert - you can only be like an expert when you achieve expert level. There are no short-cuts to being truly expert at something.

Something I’ve learned to do when I’m working on a track or piece of audio for a prolonged period of time is to take a step back from it. I find when I spend a lot of time in the studio mixing and mastering my ears don’t hear the audio for what it is, It’s like a blindness. Stepping away and coming back to it allows me to regain unbiased listening.

Ideally, you should have great-sounding raw tracks to begin with so you don't have to do much if any cleanup. The rest depends on what you're mixing for. What I like to do is grab a handful of reference audios in the style of what I'm mixing and do just enough to get it ballpark sounding comparable, then tweak levels, EQ, and spacial elements from there to my preference. It helps to find out what's commonly done to tracks in post in the genre you're mixing. For instance, you'd compress the ever-living hell out of a pop or rock vocal but that wouldn't work so well for a more acoustic track. A "professional" mix is mostly just being aware of the standards and knowing how to use the right methods to get close to that sound with some liberties.
