How can you stay motivated to create Thought Leadership content?

Promotion is how you do justice to your purpose. As humans, it's so easy to let ourselves down and make excuses because you can always justify it to yourself + nobody is watching. Shift the locus of your content to an outward accountable target or objective. What drives you? Do it for that. Give it a greater meaning than the power of your excuses.

I always follow the below approaches to stay motivated. > Plan my content with a calendar. > I focus on topics that genuinely interest and excite me. > Staying informed about the topic. > Experiment with different content formats. >Creating a dedicated time and space for content creation. > Connecting with a community of like-minded individuals.

Understanding the people at the center of issues, and having empathy for the challenges they face, is the key tenet of Design Thinking. Knowing the population we were reaching and what connects them to our message keeps us thinking about them and potential solutions in a relevant way even when we are not writing, so we always have something to draw from. This helps us look for everyday applications that others can relate to.

I get motivated to create a thought leadership content based on the knowledge I acquire through my experiences and experimentations. 1. What's our WHY? 2. How are we communicating to the world? 3. How's it driving the purpose? I move my coin based on the above and if I'm confident in providing value through content, I step in. I'm driven by this philosophy, "Don't do what everyone is doing. Prior to crafting content, a defined vision is paramount. Identifying the aims and audience for Thought Leadership content is pivotal. Understanding the core issues, desires, or curiosities of the intended audience is key. Clarifying the central messages, remedies, or viewpoints to impart holds significance. Strategizing to establish brand authority, influence, or innovation within the field is crucial. A clear purpose and specific audience steer content toward pertinent and valuable topics. This focus ensures avoidance of futile pursuits and keeps energy directed towards content that resonates, aligns, and offers substantial value to the intended audience.

Inspiration is like a cat. It rarely comes when you call it. The best way to stay active and increase your output as a thought leader is to get in the habit of generating at least a little content every day, or most days. It can be tough at first, but the brain responds like any other muscle. If you train it to come up with ideas and write regularly, it'll start doing so its own, like a trained reflex. And eventually you may actually find yourself with more content that you can schedule.

In "Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation" you learn that innovation comes from crazy mashups. Ideas or things that come together in completely new ways - "You got your peanut butter in my chocolate" kind of thing. Consume content widely - read, listen, watch. Take notes on what "zings" you. And walk a lot. Then find the threads between totally different ideas and how they fit together. That's my content strategy.

You have to create content constantly, it’s not a one and done operation. And don’t get discouraged by poor uptake at first.

Once goals and audience are defined, strategizing content becomes key. Tailoring content types, formats, and channels aligns with audience preferences and overarching objectives. Whether through blogs, podcasts, webinars, white papers, or social media, the choice reflects depth, engagement, and outreach goals. This pragmatic plan fosters accountability, maintaining consistency, and organized content creation, optimizing resonance and relevance for the intended audience.

Planning a content strategy involves aligning creative ideas with strategic goals. Recognizing audience preferences and tailoring content formats accordingly is crucial. Continuous research and learning are vital in crafting Thought Leadership content. Staying updated on industry trends, emerging challenges, and unexplored opportunities is crucial. Identifying gaps and queries within my niche guides content creation. Learning from fellow Thought Leaders and their approaches, content structures, and deliveries is invaluable. Engaging with their audiences offers insightful feedback and ideas for enhancement. This ongoing process of gathering insights fosters an informed, curious, and innovative mindset, fueling creativity in content creation. Remaining receptive to external knowledge enriches my perspective, ensuring continuous evolution and relevance in delivering valuable content to my audience.

Continual learning is as the core of thought leadership. In a rapidly evolving environment, staying ahead requires a commitment to ongoing education. Thought leaders who embrace continuous learning not only deepen their expertise but also demonstrate adaptability, resilience, and a genuine dedication to staying at the forefront of their field - and ensures that their insights remain relevant and influential in an ever-changing landscape.

For me, researching and learning from others isn't just about gathering information; it's about embracing diverse perspectives, seeing beyond my knowledge, and finding unique angles. Engaging with fellow Thought Leaders isn't merely a way to gather insights but an opportunity to foster a community where ideas flourish, feedback is embraced, and collaborations spark innovation.

Engaging with networks and conducting thorough research are vital for refining your knowledge, expanding connections, and staying updated. Actively participate in industry-related communities, forums, and social media platforms to engage with peers, share insights, and build valuable connections. Continuously research industry trends, emerging technologies, and relevant topics through reputable sources, publications, and educational resources. Networking and research foster learning, offer diverse perspectives, and provide valuable information, enhancing your expertise and content creation while keeping you informed and connected within your field.

One of my favorite things to do is partner with other thought leaders I know address similar issues as I do and build on the conversations they create on their content format. This is how ee support each other, and talk through relatable applications. Once a week I will highlight an article from someone else I know personally to expand the idea to a slightly different audience so we both have an opportunity to address topics from a different angle and keep the conversation going. Drawing as many people into the discussion is when we learn the most together.

Iteration is another key factor in Design Thinking, and we learn to do this by being responsive to others. There are many times when I save the comments that I and others have made in post conversations so I can continue thinking about the topic and its broader implications over the coming days and weeks. This allows one to be on the lookout and pick up on additional perspectives to be able to create new content that the most people find relevant.

LinkedIn is the ideal leadership-development platform, where folks not only learn from the industry’s experts, but also forge their unique leadership styles. Thought leadership is an ongoing process, as leaders share ideas for feedback from the community to fine-tune the practice as relevant in their working environments. Create thoughtful posts and the conversation could take a life-form of it’s own, thereby inspiring many more leaders to lean in.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. This is true for all content marketing, but especially in thought leadership where building trust is crucial. I’ve seen the power of win-win collaborations where thought partners collaborate to amplify each other’s voice, extending the reach of their shared narrative.

I disagree that it is lonely. If we are speaking to issues people care about in a way that demonstrates our compassion, and we are working to affect change in a practical way, we will find plenty of company. Start by engaging with other industry leaders through their content. A lot. Join the discussion with their followers. When we have something to say that others care about, and support the intelligent efforts of a wide variety of people, we will find our community.

Before you consider regularly posting, create a feed that reflects what you want to bring into the community. If your goal is to influence the discussion regarding sustainability, start by creating an inspirational feed where people you follow and connect with post about it in a way that inspires you and aligns with your voice.

Collaboration and networking are essential to growing on social media, especially when you are consistently creating content. You need to engage and write meaningful comments about other people's content and build connections with them by sending an appreciation message to them.

Rewards in the digital era are intangible and intrinsic, but highly satisfying. Every day, you see industry leaders post metrics on their feeds. 5 million impressions, for instance, is the modern-day equivalent of an industry award! So folks please do not feel shy and celebrate likes, comments, new followers, and the millions of impressions!

Staying motivated to create thought leadership content involves finding inspiration in diverse sources, setting achievable goals and maintaining a consistent routine. Explore diverse ideas and connect with your audience on a personal level. Cultivate a supportive community, celebrate shared successes, and let the genuine human connection be the heartbeat of your motivation.

In my experience you need these three things to stay motivated: 1) Conviction of an idea that helps people in some way be more effective, less stressed or improve their lives in another way 2) A supportive network of colleagues, friends or like minded people that keep you afloat when you are about to lose motivation 3) A commitment to be consistent in sharing regular content around your idea i.e. newsletter is published every week on a Tuesday

As you encounter fatigue, let your anchor be the impact your words can have on your audience. Sail through the challenges, and soon you'll find the rewarding shores of influence and meaningful connections.

I think the pressure to be seen and heard as a 'thought leader' can sometimes weigh heavy. It might make one feel like everything that they say or do needs to have some profound impact or provoke discussion and debate. One must always keep in mind that the 'thought' is most important, becoming a 'leader' is secondary. If your thoughts are engaging and relevant then that is what needs to be put out there. There may be days when you don't need to be putting out content and that is also ok. Just stay true to the thought and bring it up often enough so others hear about it.
