The very first reason you are in the event is because it's related to your work, or you are interested in the agenda. So, you will find people only with an interest that is similar to you. The first and foremost thing I do in the conferences is connect on their LinkedIn network and then start posting something that attracts a new audience. I then build the connections either they comment on my posts or message me as we both have common interests. I find this way an effective way of building connections.
