Yes, if we have an app to manage your project schedule, tasks and updates etc... it will be extremely useful for the workforce. In today's digital era, employee/staff experience matters a lot and their productivity will benefit the organization at large. This is a must have for organizations which offers services.

Mobile devices can enable field workers to submit important information such as timecards, daily reports, change orders, and work records from the jobsite to the office, and vice versa. This can reduce delays, errors, and miscommunication, and improve the accuracy and timeliness of project schedules

There are many free and included apps/tools on your own mobile device (Apple and Android) to help keep your projects on time and better coordinated (tasks, to do items, reminders, project status, etc.). Syncing your calendars may be a good first step (business and personal), and using the tasks, reminders, notes, or to-do tools on your own device. Using Alexa and Siri to send yourself reminders, may be the most basic way to keep yourself on time and on budget. There are of course many fee-based mobile applications for project management as well (for both SMBs and larger businesses). Some will offer basic tools and functionality for free and require a fee per user as you upgrade to more capabilities and options.

There are some obvious challenges but I believe designing the right experience is the tricky one, as it depends lot of the domain, like for a financial advisor on the field would expect to be as productive as they would be in front of a large desktop screen, versus a field agent collecting customer testimonials would like to know the customer interaction history. So the trick is to have a solid experience design for an particular industry. The technical challenges mentioned is an absolute truth, but we do have concrete solutions as well for these challenges.

Additionally this could be made more interactive by having chat and comment features where queries can be clarified and a revised plan can be generated. I agree, with the careful considerations mentioned and would like to add that adoption of mobile app for project is the key challenge to address. If this is done accurately and simplistically, this would be accepted by all stakeholders positively and their life would be easier.

I believe the biggest example would be Microsoft Office 365 with enterprise MDM like In Tune. Most large enterprise has adopted and employees like myself enjoys using it effectively.

Mobile based communication is very effective in celebration and slippage notifications on tasks and milestones. Also any major changes in scheduling is communicated very fast and in real time to the team members.
