How can your existing skills help you break into mobile app development?

Ich persönlich glaube, dass die Wahl der Programmiersprache oft überschätzt wird. Gute Software kann in jeder Programmiersprache entwickelt werden. Wenn man sich für JavaScript als Programmiersprache entscheidet, hat man allerdings den Vorteil, dass diese Sprache sowohl für Webseiten als auch in vielen plattformübergreifenden Frameworks wie zum Beispiel Ionic für Apps benutzt werden kann.

One thing I've found helpful for an experienced developer to start mobile app development is to open to new technologies. New tools are invented daily, so as a natural requirement, keep learning is a must. My 2-cent is to pick tools that you need, don't always pick tools that you like. A modern programming language can be studied in a week if you know how things work since they are mostly well-designed.

The creator of C++ said that “developers should know 5 different languages”. He followed up on this in a different interview saying that 5 was just a ballpark number. That the most important is “that the number is not 1”. I’ve found learning really helpful in improving my skills as a developer - as it has given me different perspectives on the different features my language of choice has. E.g. I didn’t know certain features of my language of choice were really special until I wished I had them when trying to work in other languages.

I can say from experience that moving through the mobile app languages can be fairly straightforward as long as you understand the software design principles. Design Patterns can be applied in any language as well as unit tests. Then it is about leading the framework specifics as required.

Don't go too far to the customization until you build a good UI with standard components. Users prefer app to be easy to navigate rather than eye-catching, so the design need to be balanced. Users are lazy as well, so they will choose an app that let them do as little action as possible. Just one tap less can make a major leap for an app.

I personally use Figma for converting ideas and requirements into mockup. After creating complete mockup and user flow design into figma. I take inspiration from pinterest and dribble. After getting colors and trendy ideas i design ui ux with figma. Inshort complete ui ux will help you to develop app faster.

For small app unless your app requires high queries i suggest you to use no sql database here are some of them. 1. Firestore 2. Firebase realtime db 3. Air table

Managing data throughout the whole stack in a proper way will save you a lot of time. Unless your app requires complex data manipulation, I suggest to choose NoSQL over SQL. It is quite fit because mobile app should avoid doing heavy calculations anyway. I found that NoSQL can be mapped into model layer easily with auto generation tools like Json serialization and/or database mappers. Later, the data can align with API, state management, etc. As a result, you will only care about the data, not the flow, because everything will be in sync between system's components.

Grundsätzlich unterscheidet sich das Datenmanagement von mobilen Apps nicht von anderen Anwendungen, die über das Netz erreichbar sind. Grundsätzlich ist aber in diesem Fall wichtig, dass man klare Entscheidungen trifft, welche Daten man lokal auf dem Gerät und welche zentrale auf dem Server gespeichert werden sollen. In der Regel wird man, besonders wenn die App offline verwendet werden soll, beides benötigen.

Writing tests is a tedious task when coming to mobile apps. There are two reasons. First, mobile apps focus heavily on the UI/UX that make it hard to test things like color, alignment, fonts, etc. Second, an UI change may require an update of the test which is irrelevant and cost time. However, testing is still crucial. When you release an app, a bug will remain "forever" because not all users will update the app to fix the bug.

Make sure you meet the minimum requirements, ship your app, then iterate and improve as you go! You'll learn more from failing and improving than trying to get things perfect the first time.
