How do you align your retail sales goals with your company's vision and mission?

The first step to understand and align my values with my company’s values is researching the company values before you even send a job application. Because if you research their values and truly understand them you can see if it sounds like a good fit for you and the way you work and conduct business, you can also leverage this important information during your interview, and can show that you are truly interested. Once employed by a company really listen to any trainings that go over the company values and examples other people live by and follow. Also if your company rewards excellence and exceeding a value of values try and see what value was recognized and how that particular person met the criteria to be recognized.

This an important first step for any company that wishes to inspire and retain their hires. In order to excel at this though, the leadership should invest the time and energy into the new hire's onboarding. Cutting corners here will always result in short time hires. The leader's goal should be to relate the 'What's Out Why' and 'How you can help get us there'. More importantly though is the follow-up. If you lack the ability to support your new hire as they learn and grow, they will lose their grasp of your vision and begin to lose focus on your company goals. Invest your time and energy into your team, follow through with promises and let them participate in your company's vision. They will reward you tenfold for that investment.

While the goals invariably have to be smart, they must also align with your company's mission and vision. If not, modify this to align first.

In sales it’s easy to track your metrics for the most part, personally I was able to see my individual goals and my departments goals and that was a huge motivator for me to do my best. In certain positions like mine now (Being a receptionist for a showroom sales environment) I want to see how many of the appointments I make turn to sales and how much they sell for to see how I am impacting the business. If you get a performance review or connection point managers and supervisors are pretty good at getting straight to the good stuff! My connection point as a sales specialist was like “you exceed credit application goals,” “But we also need to see a little bit more lead conversion” Just pay attention and do better where needed!

Communication is super important because sometimes someone may need to cover you for a lunch, break, or day and you still need to run an effective business to ensure your on top of sales opportunities. My team sees me as a “leader without a title” and I ask what forms of communication work best for my team if they aren’t around or I miss them on a particular day. I listen to what works best for them and utilize those methods when needed. Also, as a team you want to maintain a level of equal respect and transparency, and if you have any issues with communication be open and be receptive to feedback, ideas, or opinions. You don’t always need to involve your supervisor or manager with open lines of communication

Goals Write down your goal for say 1 month / year / or 5 years Let's show you a monthly sales goal. You must know you closing ratio, lets say you have a closing ave of 1 out of 3 In order to sell 20 gizmos, you must show the product 60 times that month, or 15 times a week. 60 shows. ÷ by 3 = 20 sales. Example of actual month Wk. 1 16 shows 3 sales Wk. 2. 10 shows 4 sales Wk. 3. 14 shows 4 sales Wk 4. 18 shows 7 sales Total 58 / 18 The set goal was set at beginning of month. 15/4 18/6 15/6 12/4 60/ 20

Set healthy boundaries at work. Utilize tools like: - Outlook Calendar (to show when your workdays Start and conclude, lunches, breaks, and tasks that you currently working on) And share this with you supervisor and manager if they call on you for tasks and special projects so they can visualize your workload, and sometimes they can look at your calendar before asking you to take on a project - If you have a Work phone and you are an hourly employee. either shut down your phone at the end of your workday or leave it in a safe place at work. you are not required to take your work phone home unless you are salaried.
