Becoming an auditor requires professional certification in relevant accounting courses and also having interest in the profession. Audit shall require a lot of time in audit engagements

To become an auditor, you typically need to: 1. Earn a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from a recognized university or institution. 2. Consider pursuing professional certification such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), or the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA) Ghana. 3. Gain practical experience through internships, entry-level positions, or apprenticeships in auditing firms, accounting firms, or corporate organizations. 4. Continuously update your skills and knowledge through professional development courses and seminars.

It’s not necessarily that the bachelor’s degree has to be in accounting or finance or even the related field. The degree can be from any field as long as it’s recognised by The IIA to sit for CIA and any Professional Accounting Body for CPA . I think the first criterion to become a good auditor is you got to have the interest in the work that you do because it’s not a profession that everyone would like to be friend with.

How to become an Auditor: - Have a Bachelors in Accounting or a related course - Take professional exams in Accounting or Auditing. - Get relevant trainings / experience from an Audit firm. - Obtain audit practitioner license from the relevant institute if you want to practice as an independent auditor.

In South Africa, one must obtain accounting degree and post graduate degree in accountancy also know as certified theory in accountancy. Then enrol for 3 years of training at accredited institutions ( e.g audit firms) then pass two board exams.

For example, Candidates pursuing Chartered Accountancy course from India are required to undergoes practical training (popularly known as Articleship) for the period of 36 months. This training forms a basis of fundamental understanding of auditing. The skills acquired builds analytical, communication, attention to details, time management skills together with practical exposure of audit.

Apart from the mandatory education or certifications good work experience and skills play a pivotal role in crafting an auditor. It is not just experience but a good experience and working with a good mentor who can guide the individual on the right path. From simple work like maintaining files and audit work to drafting plans and audit reports it all requires experience and learning with a good mentor.

For easy experience, consider Internships. During your studies, seek internships with accounting firms or internal audit departments to gain practical experience in auditing processes and build your network.

Gain practical experience in auditing through internships or entry-level positions. Develop strong analytical, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.

As experience at least you have to work 3 to 4 years in an audit firm. You can work in internal audit department or external audit department to gain sufficient experience. There are lots of audit firms in the world. If you can work in one of 4 big firms it will be great for your career.

Role of an auditor in any organization is to enhance corporate governance by properly evaluating the overall risk management practice of the organization. The auditor's responsibility is mainly to appraise risk management of the organization through properly undertaken risk based audit and provide a viable recommendation that would possibly address the risks identified thereby helping governing body actively engage with management for proper management of risks associated with the business.

In case of financial audit, the role of the auditor is to provide assurance on the financial statements. However, it involves many responsibilities. - Ensuring strong audit planning. - Understanding the business model of the auditee/client. - Identification of significant risk. - Determining materiality. - Sample selection for test-of-controls and test-of-details. - Analytical review. - Developing audit procedures for various account balances of the financial statements. - Assessment of going concern and events after reporting period. - Finalization of the financial statements - Providing recommendations and suggestions.

Primarily auditor’s main responsibility is to collect sufficient audit evidence to support his audit findings. After that auditor can give a report of his findings to the management.

Roles and responsibilities of auditor is not only finding any discrepancies but also to educate the auditees to follow the procedures and guidelines.

In audit one should start with the assumption that what is stated in the accounts may not be what should be and thus verify that all is what should be. Auditors can continue his work in an audit firm which he is currently working. Or else he can establish a new audit firm and continue his practice. If not he can join to private company which has an internal audit department. Further, he can serve as a audit committee member in a private company.

You need complete your examinations while having a good audit experience in an audit firm with strong knowledge of sectors and having strong knowledge in IFRSs.

Being in the audit profession, it provides an edge to get a working knowledge of the various business sectors which in turned can be leveraged to gain a variety of professional opportunities. Addressing the challenges requires continuous professional development, aligning with trends, commitment. - An auditor has to work in tight deadlines, on multiple projects during the peak season of audit. - Auditor usually travels from his office to client for audit fieldwork. - He may also get involved in arguments in client's staff and stakeholder. - Keeping updates with recent changes in accounting and audit standards. - Compliance with ethical regulations.

Initially an auditor takes small amounts as allowance. Once he qualifies he can earn millions. And can serve board in private companies and earn director salaries.

You will get paid to learn fast. Becoming a senior auditor takes 3 years at most. By then you will have managed your own team and written your first audit report (or part of it). If you realize by then you do not actually like financial auditing, trust me, lots of companies will be happy to hire you.

I agree. A few years ago, my boss, Harald Osel, an Austrian, once equated a good auditor with a dentist. One who keeps on drilling deep in order to clean the cavity. Not deterred by the situation / surroundings like bad breath. “Tharrak” is the synony for “passion”.
