How do you get your team motivated to achieve strategic goals?

To ignite your team's drive towards strategic goals, cultivate a culture of ownership and accountability. Challenge them to think beyond conventional limits and embrace innovation. Highlight the significance of their roles in the larger picture, inspiring a sense of purpose. Encourage calculated risks and reward bold initiatives. Foster an environment where failures are viewed as learning opportunities, pushing them to constantly evolve. Lead with passion and conviction, motivating them to surpass their own expectations and redefine success.

Vision - In simple terms, it needs to answer the BIG WHY? and WHERE. (picture of the future) Mission: It is a strategy on HOW to achieve the Vision. (It answers the question: why is this the best approach among other competing alternatives) Goals: These are metrics to identify how the mission is accomplished. Leaders motivate people using goals (which may not always be inspiring) or a vision statement (which may be inspiring but still ambiguous). The best leaders connect the core values of the individuals with that of the mission statement bringing alignment of values and clarity on what an individual can do today. This gives meaning, buy-in, commitment, and ownership, produces passion, and, eventually, action.

The easiest way to tackle SMART goal-setting is to start with measurability. If you ensure your goal is measurable, it will naturally become specific and time bound, and you will easily be able to establish whether it's achievable and relevant. The most frequent mistake when creating a SMART goal is setting vague "growth" as your goal - for instance, "10% revenue growth by X date". While that may seem SMART, it isn't specific at all - every business in the world is looking to achieve growth, and this goal does nothing to describe *how* you will achieve that. Your SMART goal should always be growth-focused, but should describe exactly how you plan to achieve growth - for instance, "increase revenue in X market" or "reassign Y resources".

What worked wonders in our strategic goals has been a gamification of the goals. Towards a vision and strategic goal, there are different things we need to tackle. While setting SMART goals it's important to do that with each part of your strategy. Break down your goal, reverse engineer it and look at the different pillars needed to accomplish that goal. Then based on your reverse engineered goals, set SMART goals in each different pillar so that, at the end of the deadline, having the project done is just logical.

The tone, medium, timing,articulation, choice of words and frequency of communication is vital to ensure effectiveness and attainment of desired objectives.

Clearly communicate the strategic goals of the organization to the sales team, along with the rationale behind these goals. When team members understand the purpose and significance of their efforts, they are more likely to be motivated to contribute to achieving those goals.

Use various channels (meetings, emails, reports) to communicate frequently, clearly, and respectfully with your team. Encourage team members to share ideas and feedback, building trust, rapport, and collaboration. Keep your team informed, engaged, and aligned with your vision and goals to motivate them effectively.

You're not going to influence others if you don't believe in what you do yourself. Since a Sale is a transfer of emotion, you always have to sell your idea, your strategy, and your plan to your team. Make sure that everyone understands exactly where you're going with all of that. Avoid friction and make everyone thats working towards the overall vision know how important it is what they do.

Implement a system for recognizing and rewarding individual and team achievements. This could include incentives, bonuses, public acknowledgement, or non-monetary rewards. Recognizing and celebrating success can boost morale and reinforce positive behavior.

Give the sales team autonomy to make decisions and be innovative in their approach to achieving strategic goals. Allowing flexibility and creativity can help team members feel empowered and motivated to take ownership of their work.

Let's think about this through the lens of servant leadership. It's a buzzword but really its about understand what the end stakeholder or client really needs and supporting your team to deliver that. Let's creating distinct, obtainable goals that are in line with the team’s strengths and objectives. Build an atmosphere of trust and self-sufficiency so that they feel like they own the work. Provide resources and training necessary for skill development. Set milestones together no matter how small they seem. Be open, listen to feedback, and adjust based on team input. Be empowering.

All these MLM-constructs do that very well. Recognition in a top-notch hotel, almost like ritualistic rewards, incentives, or holidays with other top-performers on the beach. Guess all companies can learn from this amount of celebration and teambuilding.

Align strategic goals with individual aspirations, ensuring everyone sees their line of sight to outcomes. Alignment coupled with ownership can create a superconducting stage for the organisation.
