How do you interpret and communicate the results of cp and cpk in excel to stakeholders and customers?

Cp e Cpk mostram quão conforme os dados estão em relação aos limites. Cps altos e Cpks baixos indicam que temos que modificar o processo para levar os resultados para dentro do limite. Você está com um sistema padronizado porém gerando resultados fora da especificação. No Excel podemos usar essas informações de forma gráfica, mostrando os limites inferiores e superiores e como os dados estão nesse gráfico. Explicar que, quando o processo é normal, precisamos de Cp e Cpk altos, acima de 1,3 para termos processos capazes, que entregam resultados dentro da especificação constantemente. Enfim, no Cp sabemos se os dados estão juntos os separados. No Cpk sabemos se a média desses resultados está perto ou longe da média que queremos alcançar.

Cp is de process capability and Cpk is the process capability index. The first gives an idea about the quality capacity of the product and the second provides a value to know how centered is a process in a range. Cp is bigger or equal to Cpk

Let me try double clicking or in simple words Interpreting Cp & Cpk for me it's no less than like decoding a recipe for quality. Cp actually shows potential, while Cpk reveals if we're meeting the taste (specs). In the event of low Cpk its time to tweak the recipe! For example, if Cpk=0.8 in a call center's handling time analysis, stakeholders see an improvement gap. In Excel graphs + clear visuals = 'Here's where we win, here's where we improve!

Always use data in the excel. It is common to see excel charts with typed data. It is much more clear to use registered data in cells (columns and rows)

In general, it is better to get a value of Cpk as high as posible. A Cpk value lower than 1 identifies a process not capable of providing quality control. A value between 1.0 and 1.33 is considered poor quality. Higher yhan 1.33 is considered capable of providing quality, and complying with the specification limits. It should be always pursued a value higher than 2.0

Any Cp or Cpk values can provide information about current quality level, and when compared to previous values can provide an idea of improvement or worsening of a process quality performance

Cp and Cpk can provide also an idea about if a process could manufacture such a product under certain specifications. This could be assesed if a similar product is being manufactured or initial tests are developed.

Ppk (Process Performance Index) and Cpk (Process Capability Index) differ in their applications. In a stable process, they align closely, but in less stable processes, Ppk reflects current performance, while Cpk shows potential capability. Both use similar calculations, but Cpk considers only within-subset variation, estimating standard deviation via Rbar/d2, whereas Ppk accounts for all variation, including between subsets. Before a completing a capability study, conduct a measurement system analysis to ensure accuracy. Remember, measured performance includes variation from both the process and the measurement system. A common Six Sigma pitfall is improving a process when the real issue is a flawed measurement system.
