Show respect for and patience with the mavericks who drive innovation. Autonomy may matter more to them than corporate merit badges. That and relief from routine and repetitive duties. The outsider/insider may transgress the norms, but be the leading edge of positive change.

3 points to add. 1. Servant leadership 2. Reverse mentoring and 3. QBE. 1. Developing leaders who have a ethos of serving those they lead not the other way around. 2. To do this try reverse mentoring especially important in the modern day workplace where unconscious bias can exist unless the senior leaders listen and learn from junior staff members. Really important for minority groups. 3. Don’t fall into recruitment trap of what degree / educational qualifications have you got! Use QBE more = Qualified By Experience.

Identifying existing and needed resources and capabilities 3. Assigning and prioritizing tasks 4. Developing timelines 5. Establishing evaluation measures 6. Developing protocols for dealing with the unexpected It is a given that your original ‘plan’ will need to be adjusted or possibly even abandoned entirely, but if you have planned properly, you won’t be completely “winging it” as you continue towards your innovation goal. And with proper planning, you will have agreed upon processes for dealing with most of the unexpected wrinkles you will encounter
