Work with available facts, not opinions. Do root cause analysis to guard against treating the symptoms of the problem. Unveil the problem and identify the process which brought it into being. Generate data or patterns or laws behind the identified processes.

Dig deeper than a surface level understanding of why a problem occurs. Once you think you have an answer, keep asking "how" or "why" and see where it leads. You may find that the issue wasn't as simple as it seemed, or that what you thought was a problem with a team member was actually a problem with a work culture. Listen empathetically and don't assume that you know the answers to the problem before you holistically understand it.

Good brainstorming begins with a culture that embraces difference of thought, and values and respects all members of the community. Work to create a team atmosphere where people are encouraged to speak out, and where they believe their opinion actually matters; all that happens before you even step into a brainstorming session.

Do not silence nonsense speakers during brainstorming sessions. Involve all relevant stakeholders in generating alternatives. The generated alternative solutions to the problems should be in line with the organization’s goals. Put alternatives in two categories short-term and long–term. Experimenting, prototyping, and or simulating may be necessary to substantiate scoring and conclusions. This has to be done without any bias and in line with the targeted standard

Always keep your eyes on the organization's mission and vision. It's easy to come up with possible solutions to a problem, put work into it, and then realize a little too late that the idea that it doesn't actually align with the organization's goals. Every decision you make should be filtered through that lense.

After putting in place the resources needed to implement the chosen alternative top management assigns middle managers the responsibility and holds them accountable for their actions.
