Every added feature on database system requires additional system resources and over head in managing & administrating them. Replication is one of them which involves copying the database objects like tables, views & procedures(articles) from main server (Publisher) to other servers(Subscribers). It does help in offloading the read only operations on subscriber for reporting however it also impacts system performance like when snapshot runs it locks the database objects on publisher, for transactional if the subscriber gets disconnected, log file on publisher keep growing impacting database performance and uses excess storage. If clean up fails it causes distribution db to grow etc. Thus when replication is configured due care is required.

Je confirme ces différents points, mais j'ajouterai aussi que cela peut permettre, de manière marginale, sur une base OLTP, d'utiliser les serveurs secondaires pour d'autres type de requêtage (type OLAP/analytique) sans avoir à affecter le bon fonctionnement de l'application. Même si je sais, on préfèrera avoir une autre base avec un schéma de données spécifiquement conçu pour les activités OLAP, cela peut tout de même répondre à certaines problématiques de "pilotage à chaud" sur des indicateurs bien précis sans prendre le risque de surcharger la base primaire.
