In my experience as a hiring committee member and/or chair, I appreciate receiving a thank you note. I have never received a hand written thank you note, but think it would be lovely to receive as long as the interviewer indicates that a decision won’t be made for a week or more to give the handwritten note time to arrive in the mail. If time doesn’t allow for snail mail, and you are computer savvy, you could opt to use a handwritten a note that’s scanned to email giving you the best of both worlds. This would offer a personal touch but still using email. You never know what opportunities might be coming along. It’s always good to do all that you can to impress the interviewer.
