In my experience working on a recent power distribution project, we implemented advanced automation and control systems to optimize energy flow and minimize transmission losses. The integration of smart sensors and communication protocols allowed for real-time monitoring and efficient management of the power distribution network. One thing i found very innovative that is Peer to Peer trading (P2P) energy trading. This innovation do not revolve around energy technology itself but make it more useful. This concept use block chain technology to let people buy and sell their surplus renewable energy making clean power more accessible.

Recent advancement in distribution sector is Distributed automation (DA)it utilizes automated systems and advanced technology in electrical distribution networks to improve reliability and efficiency. These technologies include fault detection and isolation systems, advanced metering infrastructure, and distributed energy management systems. These DA technologies allow for real-time control and monitoring of distribution networks for faster outage detection and restoration. Fault detection and isolation (FDI) is a key component of DA and sensing data and other data sources. 

Engineering research has helped a lot to improve power consumption. An obvious example is the light bulb that has been invented by Mr Edison. After that, General Electric (GE) Company has started to produce the light bulb with tungsten line. Many years after, researches have found that power consumption of tungsten bulbs are high and more 60% of energy is lost in terms of heat dissipation. After transistor invention, Light Emitting Diode (LED) is found providing better illumination, less power consumption and offering many options. Also, researches have helped the industry in terms of power consumption. For example, using power factor correction in industry to reduce power consumption like capacitor bank has helped a lot.

When we talk about power consumption efficiency we always talk about LED. We have to focus on other options like using vfd to control the speed of blowers. Using vfd's to control the flow by controling the speed or reducing the speed by 10% (if it does not effect the production) can save the power which will lead to better power efficiency.

I believe we should have some sleep mode funcunalty that is AI powered on appliances around us. If the device can go sleep mode even for few seconds it will make difference with time in saving energy.

The ratio of supply to consumption has expanded in the last 30 years. Research in power consumption, can balance the ratio nearly 1to2 and improve energy consumption efficiency. Through IoT, Engineers can design systems that are energy saving.

Great advances has been developed, and are in development, in terms of technologies to improve the efficiency of power generation, transmission, distribution and consumption, however, the market penetration and price correction due to economies of scale, of those technologies, have been much slower than deserved. I believe that is cussed in part, because there is a lack in specialized knowledge in energy efficiency, absence of an energy efficiency culture throughout the company, specific goals and policies, good measurement and reporting practices, and a lack of a rewarding schem for employees; problems that could be effectively managed through the implementation of a well designed energy efficiency management program.

Developing a greater understanding of both when renewable power is available and when it’s needed is crucial for next-generation power systems. Yet this can be complicated for renewable technologies. That’s where machine learning can play a role.
