I believe the five elements of best practices for a research PPT are. 1stly, "The audience." The presenter should understand the prospective audience, will help tailor their approach to resonate with them. 2ndly, a firm grasp of the subject matter is IMP. Facial expressions matter as words; a confident presenter engages the audience.3rdly, stick to the concept "simplicity is an art." A simplified presentation improves information retention and sparks interest in the topic. 4th, adhere to the time limit and adjust content accordingly to prevent distraction and loss of focus. The last essential element is maintaining interactivity. Relevant examples from daily life can be more engaging and conduct short Q&A sessions for a lasting impression.

You should have very clear thoughts or views about what you are delivering and for whom, and of course for what purpose. In general, the purpose of the presentation may be to teach something to a specific group of persons or to convince a specific group of people by displaying your research work or concluding your overall achievements to a large group of audience. All the factors influencing the purpose of the presentation will further decide the format, data, facts, and overall story of the presentation.

A clear purpose allows me to focus on a specific goal or objective that I want to achieve through my research presentation. It would be better if could make the problem more relevant by making it relevant to our daily life where people can put themselves into the story. Your content should have practical steps with statistics of an ongoing problem and how this research points to it or alleviates it. It should be structured based on the research topic, the aim of the research, the research methodology and any other pain points that need to be explored from your topic.

For large, diverse, and online audiences, accessible formats like blog posts, infographics, or webinars work well. On the other hand, for small, specialized, and in-person audiences, detailed, interactive formats like workshops, panel discussions, or demonstrations are more effective. One thing I have found very helpful is to structure the presentation in such a way that it is tailored to the specific type of audience that it is directed to. If the insights are meant to be utilized for strategic decision-making, then it is very helpful to synthesize it and only capture a maximum of 5 key insights as well as corresponding recommendations. If the presentation is aimed at an operational audience that will be implementing the insights then it can be detailed to enable them to adequately use it.

I've learned that your personal style plays a crucial role in shaping the presentation of your research. Decide on your tone and balance of formality. For a formal, authoritative style, opt for journal articles or conference papers. If you lean towards informality and expressiveness, consider formats like podcasts or blog posts. Your style ensures your research not only informs but resonates authentically with your audience.

From my experience, a critical factor in deciding the style is the audience's experience with the topic and my intention for the presentation. Let me explain with an example. When I was presenting my research seminar, which was meant for a wider audience with relatively less knowledge of my subject, I used more figures and charts followed by a brief conclusion on each slide. This helped the audience to follow while also being attentive. On the other hand, while presenting at an international conference, I used a less creative design, and more slides to explain my method than to explain the research topic, as the audience was far more mature in the topic and my intention was to explain what outcomes I achieved vs. the existing methods.

Remember, walls of text are rarely useful for showing your results, and walls of text are not aesthetically pleasing. Minimalist design, with a few contrasting colours and emphasis on good graphics go a long way in delivering the idea behind your presentation. All research presentations should include graphics and key points, rather than rehashing your entire paper onto slides.

We also need to consider funding of this research. This is because clinical trials and randomized control trials which may be involved in a research work may require adequate funding to gather resources and subjects required for this research.
