What are the best ways to prepare for industry events as a program manager?

It may be a good idea to block the calendars or schedule the meetings if possible before the event. It will help prepare well in advance and not lose the golden opportunity searching for key discussion points.

Time is the key here. Making sure that everything is as required can be fruitful. I think the best way is to let everyone know what is expected from them so that it goes smoothly without collision on different roles and objectives that are supposed to be met.

When I first started networking professionally, I would end up with a stack of business cards at the end of the event. I made it a practice to write down key points of what I had talked to that person about on the card and if it seemed like an especially promising lead, I would send off an email that evening with an invitation to keep the conversation going. Now, I prefer to send a LinkedIn connection request instead of exchanging cards but the follow-up is still the same. A message thanking them for the connection and a note on something we discussed and an invite to meet to keep the conversation going.

In my experience it’s super important to have the right team around you when going into an event. Your team efforts together make for a successful event. Knowing their position and being able to deliver it well. Most importantly having each member of your team supporting other members.
