Also metal supply is a crucial issue in terms of availability, supply, and price. Metals will be needed for both manufacturing wind turbines and batteries needed to store energy. Wind energy is also not a universal option, as wind speeds varies from one region to another. The variability of wind speed also makes security of supply an issue.

I do not entirely agree with this. Whilst wind power is variable (day to day) it is pretty reliable over a year, and are sited based on seasonal and location based wind patterns measured over years. It is actually very reliable in this sense. Bearing in mind that this would not be the only source of power in a Grid. Storage systems, via pumped hydro are a good combination, and many options exist. Regarding costs, all major energy generation projects are expensive to develop and maintain. So the real question here is not, the cost of wind power, but the comparative cost. In this calculation wind is cheaper than most comparative means (i.e. nuclear) and does not create GHGs (unlike coal and gas) which is important given the climate crisis.

The biggest issues would be, first, cost. How comparable would it be to other sources of energy especially renewables. The other would be the land use requirement. Can we make it more scalable and efficient such that it doesn’t utilize much more land and affect the eco system where the wind blades and turbines are installed via a vis the loss of land vegetation, birds and other animals displaced by the magnetic fields generated and rotation of blades but generate more power with little wind motion. Third would be deployment. Can it be easily deployed in different sizes and integrated easily to the grid and other renewables? While it is now, it should be considered for the future. Totally disagree with this. It is much more cost effective than traditional nuclear, by all measures. Regarding subsidies, Nuclear and Fossil Fuels have massive subsidies that far exceed Renewables, so this is a total red herring. Price volatility is much more prevalent in fossil fuels, as we have seen with Ukraine etc. Access to finance is not a key issue. All in all I think the AI is well off target here, either that or it has been reading Oil and Gas press releases!

The largest growth in renewable investments has been in wind energy over the past decade. The main economic competitor of wind is cheap gas. As natural gas prices remain low, it may slow investments in wind energy especially in gas rich countries. On the other hand, countries aiming to reduce dependence on gas imports may look at wind energy as an option yet they’ll need a back up source that could be gas/coal or nuclear.

The non competitiveness of Wind is only true on very small systems where the economies of scale do not take place. However for medium and large systems wind energy is competitive, the main drawback is the state of the roads (which are usually in a bad state in developing countries, mainly in mountain areas where more high speed is encountered), given that the transport infrastructure needs specific sizes to accommodate wind blades, which is not a limitation for Solar.

In all deregulated power markets, the increased - often time extreme - volatility undermines investments. Volatility also undermines investments in industries we need to supply metals, alloys and other products that Solar PV, on and offshore wind and gas power with CCS which are needed to ensure balancing power when there is no wind, cloudy or nighttime. Again, while there is some truth to this, it needs to be put into context. If you were proposing an Energy to Waste plant would these social barriers be removed? No. Ditto a Coal Power Plant or Nuclear Power Station. Therefore really the social barriers here are not unique to Wind Power per se. The issues here are about major energy infrastructure, in terms of landscape, land use, displacement etc. At least in the case of Wind you have the positive in terms of policy framework that this is part of an essential transition and decarbonisation of the energy supply.

While I am not a "tree hugger" in the typical sense, I do have a concern about several aspects of the placement selection and implementation of the various turbine towers. Having driven past multiple wind energy developments, the first thing I noticed was the number of turbines that were in each one. From a distance it might not seem like much, but when you take into consideration the actual size of the tower and the wind energy blades they are huge. Policy is going to either make or break wind. But policy will be made at 3 levels and they may conflict. Local policy will want to restrict wind to out of sight and out of mind. This policy will be the absolute hardest to change. It takes careful work with the community to get good local policy. Treat the locals like not important and your project is likely dead on arrival. State and regional policy, including new infrastructure policy. Regions can make or break high voltage transmission, and rights of way. Market and interconnection policy also happens at the regional level. It may take years to work through this. National policy, in most cases this is pro or neutral to wind. But national policy does not beat local or regional policy.

For the Philippines, policy barrier is the most challenging aspect that may hinder energy development simply because there are lots of energy sources available that may compete in the choice of energy. Environmental protection is also of utmost importance.

On the other hand, countries well developed like Spain, start to have more rejections from the local communities as the rural life feels to be challenged by the rapid increase of renewables. Finally, the way to finance the projects highly depends on the development stage of the market, more developed markets can provide meaninful PPAs, according to price creation. For other markets, a higher risk is adopted as there is not transparency.

The integration with green hydrogen production could be the solution to the intermittency of wind energy due to its dependence on weather conditions. Hydrogen can be generated through water electrolysis using the surplus energy produced by wind farms during periods of abundant wind. This green hydrogen can be stored and used as a readily convertible form of energy when wind production is reduced, serving as an energy storage solution.

A future prospect of wind energy is the recycling of the wind blades. Technologies to recycle the composite materials should be made cheaper before disposal of wind blades becomes an environmental problem. There should have been an Environmental Challenge or Recycling Challenge.

The implementation of renewable energies mustn't replicate the corporate dynamics of fossil fuel energy. Renewable energy can and must be in the hands of communities and microgrids must be favoured over huge centralised networks.

Consider this: Wind in the United States exists only because of subsidies. Therefore, wind by it's construction, is on the government dole from Day 1. An effort should be made to reduce production costs so wind can either: 1. Accept subsidies until all construction costs are done 2. Exist without subsidies. Rate payers get hammered twice - they pay for the electricity, AND for the subsidies to the wind generators which pay for the same electricty. That just isn't right, green energy or not.

During an impact assessment study for a proposed construction of an #offshorewind farm, locals / local fishing industry had massive potential environmental concerns.
